WARNER HOME VIDEO ACQUIRESSALES RIGHTS TO NHL TITLES

TheNHL and Warner Home Video today announced a three-year partnership for theglobal marketing and distribution of NHL DVD and video titles, includingexclusive retail, direct and premium sales rights.  The partnership will launch with the release of ‘03 Stanley CupChampionship title, followed by Stanley Cup releases in ’04-06.  A minimum of three new titles per year willbe produced (THE DAILY).


MLS TO AIR FOUR HIGH-DEFMATCHES AT SELECT REG THEATERS

MLSand Regal CineMedia today formally announced that they have agreed to presentfour live Wednesday night MLS matches via high definition in select RegalEntertainment Group (REG) theaters in four markets – N.Y., L.A., Chicago andDenver.  League broadcast partner HDNetwill produce the following matches, which will also be shown on HDNet (THEDAILY):

FOUDY TO CONTINUE AS SPOKESPERSON FOR TOPSOCCER INITIATIVE

UniroyalTire today announced that it has re-signed WUSA Spirit MF Julie Foudy asthe national spokesperson for the company’s youth soccer initiatives, includingTOPSoccer, a joint national outreach program with U.S. Youth Soccer fordisabled children.  It is Foudy’s fourthconsecutive year in the role.  Inaddition, Uniroyal announced that it will donate $500 for every minute Foudyplays and $50,000 for every goal she scores in the upcoming Women’s World Cupto youth soccer programs (THE DAILY).


MBC TO CARRY 25 SWAC FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL GAMES

MajorBroadcasting Cable Network (MBC) today announced an exclusive five-year sportscoverage agreement with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), making itthe official cable carrier for all SWAC games. Under the deal, MBC will air a total of 25 SWAC football and basketballgames during the ’03-04 seasons.  MBCVice Chairs Evander Holyfield and Cecil Fielder were present forthe announcement (THE DAILY).

ANational Sporting Goods Association study shows that retail sales of sportinggoods in ’03 are expected to grow to $46.8B, up 2% from $45.8B a year ago (THEDAILY).

TheAP reports that the Davis Cup match between Lebanon and Hong Kong that wasrescheduled because of SARS will be played in Sri Lanka June 20-22 (AP,5/28).
