POOK LOOKS FOR STRONG RETAIL PARTNER IN NEXT TITLE SPONSOR

CART President Chris Pook said in Australia Friday that the series has lost its title sponsor FedEx for next year. He said that he "was speaking with several companies about replacing" the company that has served as the series' title since '97. Pook: ''The relationship was wonderful, they shipped a lot of stuff out of our paddock. As a series sponsor, we loved them. But the fact of the matter is in these sort of series, you have to have a series sponsor who activates to the retail market. That was not FedEx's game plan, that was never their game plan. I hope they will continue to work with us, but I must say that other freight companies are talking to us pretty rapidly. We need to activate a series sponsor who can reach our retail audience" (AP, 10/25).

In addition to State Farm, the five-year-old UT Athletics official corporate sponsorship umbrella includes Coca-Cola, IKON, Wells Fargo Bank, American Airlines, HEB, IBM, SBC, Dodge, MBNA America and Time Warner Cable (THE DAILY).

JOEY, THEY'RE NOT ANGRY ANYMORE: OR FANS BACK HARRINGTON

The PORTLAND TRIBUNE reports that the Univ. of OR Duck Shop in downtown Portland is having "trouble" keeping Joey Harrington's No. 3 Lions jersey in stock. Harrington's uniform "is the best-selling jersey in stock," just ahead of Univ. of OR RB Onterrio Smith's No. 2. Duck Shop Store manager Brian Wright: "As long as (Harrington) keeps playing well, we'll be selling them. He's still a Duck, even though he's graduated and plays in Detroit. He'll always be a Duck."  Wright said the store is expecting its third shipment of Harrington jerseys this season in the next week (PORTLAND TRIBUNE, 10/25).
