WILL KAZU-MANIA STRIKE DURING M’S BOBBLEHEAD GIVEAWAY?

The SEATTLE TIMES reports that the Mariners will "hold their second bobblehead giveaway of the season" on Saturday, this one honoring P Kazuhiro Sasaki. The first one on July 28 for OF Ichiro Suzuki "created a frenzy among the fans and collectors who began camping around the stadium 24 hours before the gates opened." Mariners Dir of Public Information Rebecca Hale looked ahead to Saturday and said, "Our hope and belief are that it will go very smoothly. It might not be quite the same level of intensity with Kazu as opposed to Ichiro. But bobblehead collecting continues to be very popular. Some people are going to want a complete set." The club has set 8:00am PT tomorrow as the time fans can begin lining up for the 7:05pm game. The gates will open at 4:05pm (SEATTLE TIMES, 9/7).

BUZZER BEATERS

The AP notes that Temple Univ., "kicked out as a football-playing member of the Big East Conference, was given the go-ahead Friday to continue fielding a team through the 2004 season." The decision "probably means the school will drop any plans it might have had to challenge the conference in court after the league's seven other football schools voted last March to drop the Owls" (AP, 9/7)…. Regular season single game tickets for the Wild will go on sale tomorrow at 9:00am CT at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office and 10:00am at all Ticketmaster locations (THE DAILY)….Vikings WR Cris Carter will announce the launch of AthletesHealth.com on Sunday. MORE BAD NEWS: The AP reports, "The U.S. unemployment rate soared to a four-year high in August as companies hacked 113,000 workers from their payrolls, the government said on Friday in a startlingly bleak report on the economy" (AP, 9/7).
