Giants to debut Willie Mays pop-up exhibit near Oracle Park

The S.F. Giants will debut a Willie Mays-centric "pop-up exhibit across the street from Oracle Park" that will open to the public on Monday, according to John Shea of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The “Willie Mays Say Hey Experience” has the “qualities of a gallery, theater and museum crammed into a 2,000-square-foot space.” It will open on game days three hours before first pitch, and it is “free of charge for all.” The entrance to the exhibit “features a colorful stained-glass image of Mays in his batting stance,” and the contents inside “include seven projectors showing more than 500 slides of Mays and three additional projectors showing video.” The slideshows cover the entirety of Mays’ life and career, with "most of the pictures never before seen by even the most ardent Mays followers.” Shea noted Giants Dir of Archives Missy Mikulecky “gathered all the memorabilia and designed the exhibit.” The idea of the exhibit surfaced in the offseason in talks between Giants President Larry Baer and Chair Greg Johnson. Baer had EVP & Chief Legal Officer Jack Bair oversee the project "with Mikulecky’s creative input.” The Giants have a six-month lease through Nov. 1 at the space. Season-ticket holders “will be given access to the exhibit beginning Friday,” the first day of a nine-game homestand (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/9).
