Pistons look to align front office, hire new president of basketball ops

The Pistons have “formalized their search for a president of basketball operations” following a franchise-worst 14-68 record this season, according to Omari Sankofa II of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. That role will be above GM Troy Weaver and “will have final say on front office and coaching hires.” It will “report directly to Pistons owner Tom Gores.” This marks the “latest attempt by Pistons ownership to align the organization as it tries to climb out of yet another sputtered rebuild.” The last two seasons combined have delivered just 31 wins. This will be the “first time the Pistons have had a team president since Stan Van Gundy stepped down from the role in 2018.” Sources said that the idea behind hiring a president “is to get a splintered front office back on the same page.” Weaver had served as the Pistons’ “lead signal-caller,” but Gores and Vice Chair Arn Tellem “have also had input as the team's year-to-year record has stagnated.” The idea is to align behind “one unified voice, rather than several competing agendas” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 4/15).
