WNBA continues advocacy commitment with Opill birth-control partnership

Opill

The WNBA and Opill, the first over-the-counter birth control pill available without a prescription, have teamed up for a multi-year partnership that includes being an associate partner of the 2024 WNBA Draft, presented by State Farm, on April 15 in Brooklyn.

The WNBA has long been committed to social justice causes, and this year is no exception.

“Opill is making history as the first OTC birth control in the U.S., and the WNBA is heading into a history making season,” said Colie Edison, chief growth officer of the WNBA. “It was important for us to find partners that aligned with our core values, and those same issues were really critical to add.”

For Opill’s side, this is their “coming-out party.”

“We’re looking forward to our debut, more to come and some fun little surprises,” said Leila Bahbah, Perrigo U.S. Women’s Health Brand Lead. “In the spirit of access, we’re trying to build awareness of Opill, what it is, and how to educate.”

When asked if the league had any concerns about controversy over aligning with a birth control brand, Edison shrugged it off. “We have always believed at the WNBA that women’s health is society health. It was important for us to share our platform with a brand like Opill. We will always be a champion for health equity, and Opill is a great partner to move forward what we’re trying to do at the league. We’re true to our values, and we’re proud of this partnership.”
