Northwestern looking at using on-campus stadium to host football this fall

Northwestern is examining whether the on-campus Lanny & Sharon Martin Stadium could host football games this season “while the reconstruction of Ryan Field is taking place,” according to Alex Hulvalchick of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The school sent an application earlier this week to the Evanston Community Development Department “seeking to construct temporary seating for up to 15,000 spectators and other game-day necessities at the field.” The stadium is used by Northwestern soccer and lacrosse teams. The school has six home football games in 2024, and it is unknown how many would be played at Martin Stadium. Wrigley Field, Guaranteed Rate Field and Soldier Field also reportedly have been considered as to host games this fall (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/28).
