Neb. Gov. blames NU regents for Alberts' departure

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen today "blamed" the Univ. of Nebraska Board of Regents for the departure of AD Trev Alberts, calling it "unacceptable" that they have not yet named a successor to NU President Ted Carter after seven months. In a "call to action," Pillen called on the regents to "move on the top leadership post and support the efforts" of NU interim President Chris Kabourek to appoint a new permanent AD. Pillen: "I am deeply disappointed by Trev Alberts' decision to leave so soon after restating his commitment to Nebraska and I don’t fully understand or know his reasons why. I do know that the time for reflecting on the failures of University leadership, which led to his decision, must come later. Now is the time to act" (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 3/14).

Kabourek said he will "move quickly" on finding a new AD and added that his "intention is to engage a national search firm to aid in the search." And while Kabourek carries the interim title, he said he has "already spoken to all members" of BOR, who "approved the plan for him to move forward with the hiring process." Kabourek "put no timeline" on the hiring process. He also "offered little insight" behind the reasons Alberts decided to leave for Texas A&M (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 3/14).
