Steve Ballmer creates new umbrella company, Halo Sports & Entertainment

Halo S&E

With his privately financed Intuit Dome due to open in five months, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has consolidated his athletic and real estate portfolio into a new umbrella company known as Halo Sports & Entertainment. Ballmer’s sporting assets include the new arena, the NBA’s Clippers, G League Ontario Clippers and Kia Forum with no current plans to expand the list.

Current Clippers president of business operations Gillian Zucker will transition to CEO of Halo S&E, tasked with overseeing business operations of the NBA and G League teams, as well as Intuit Dome and Kia Forum. Lawrence Frank will remain president of basketball operations for the L.A. and Ontario Clippers.

Ballmer’s venture is yet another NBA conglomerate in the same category as Spurs Sports & Entertainment in San Antonio, Pacers Sports & Entertainment in Indianapolis, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment and Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. in New York, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment in Denver, Monumental Sports in Washington, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment in Philadelphia and Mat Ishbia’s recent Player 15 Group in Phoenix.

According to the Clippers, Halo S&E will “help foster collaboration and efficiency’’ for Ballmer’s four athletic assets. Zucker has over 25 years of experience in the sports industry —10-plus years with the Clippers, 16 years with International Speedway Corp. and three as assistant GM of the Durham Bulls — and spent several years advising Ballmer on ways to accentuate Intuit Dome. The new arena, adjacent to Kroenke’s SoFi Stadium and YouTube Theatre in Inglewood, opens in August.
