WSC Sports pairs innovation, expansion as leader in automated highlight software

WSC Sports

Daniel Shichman remembers the early days of WSC Sports, surveying the competitor landscape alongside his co-founders. “We saw another company, and they had like 13 employees,” said Shichman, WSC Sports’ CEO. “We said, ‘Wow, if we had 13 employees, we could do anything. Why do you need more than that?’”

But where WSC Sports was going required more heft, and its founders met the challenge. The company left 2023 as the leader in automated highlight software with 450 employees, a presence in seven countries and a partner list of more than 450, including nearly every major sports league or broadcaster you could name.

WSC Sports

MISSION: Utilizing advanced artificial intelligence technologies, WSC Sports automates the creation, management and distribution of highlights through its proprietary platform, which analyzes live sports broadcasts, identifies every event that occurs in a game, and in real time, creates and publishes customized videos and other live content for over 430 global teams, leagues, federations and broadcast partners.
FOUNDED: 2011
HQ: Tel Aviv, Israel
EMPLOYEES: 450
KEY EXECUTIVES: Daniel Shichman, co-founder/CEO; Aviv Arnon, co-founder/chief business development officer; Hy Gal, co-founder/COO; Shmulik Yoffe, CTO
KEY PARTNERS: NBA, NHL, La Liga, LPGA, MLS, NASCAR, Bleacher Report, Big Ten Network, YouTube TV and CBS

That position has only accelerated its rate of evolution and expansion. In 2023, WSC Sports welcomed more than 150 new clients and unveiled fresh offices in New York City and Tel Aviv (its headquarters). Recent technological developments include a software solution called In-App Stories that embeds within clients’ apps and websites and formats short-form content to simulate the effect of social media sites like TikTok and Instagram, and a generative artificial intelligence engine that produces scripts and voice-overs in four languages to accompany highlight packages within the NBA App (which WSC Sports also creates).

“We feel it’s the beginning of a journey,” Shichman said. “We have ambitions and want to grow and we do appreciate that we’ve done cool things until now. But we still feel like we have so much to do. And the hunger is there.”
