Tom Brady buys stake in Birmingham City

Former NFLer Tom Brady "has become a minority owner" of EFL Championship club Birmingham City. Brady will "become chairman of a new Advisory Board, as well as working alongside the sports science department." Brady also will "contribute to the club’s global marketing efforts" and "identify new commercial partnership opportunities for the club" (London TELEGRAPH, 8/2).

Brady is "investing alongside his friend," hedge fund manager Tom Wagner, who purchased a 45% stake in the club in July. The new ownership "stands to raise the profile of the club," which had been controlled by Chinese investor Paul Suen since 2016 and has "struggled financially since being relegated from the Premier League" in 2011 (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 8/2).
