BASEBALL

The Atlanta Braves named Ericka Newsome director of community affairs. Newsome previously worked as media relations manager at Porter Novelli Public Relations.

Laurel Lindsay, Toronto Blue Jays director of community relations, assumed the title of director of consumer and cause-related marketing. The departments were merged after the resignation of former director of consumer marketing Jim Bloom.


BASKETBALL

Eugene Liger, Tony Martin, Bryan Maxwell, Robert Miller, Adam Nash, Tyson Chapman and Garrett Drummond were hired by the New Orleans Hornets in sales positions.


COLLEGES

The Charlotte 49ers promoted John George from ticket manager to assistant athletic director for ticket operations. Les Goodall was promoted from compliance officer to assistant athletic director for compliance and championships. Darin Spease was named senior associate athletic director for business affairs and Kim Whitestone senior associate athletic director for internal affairs/senior women’s administrator; both had been associate athletic directors. Dan DeVos was promoted to associate athletic director for marketing and ticket operations and Tom Whitestone to associate athletic director for media relations. Kelly Weatherman was promoted from director of the Athletic Foundation’s annual fund to assistant director of the foundation.


FINANCE

Vallen
PricewaterhouseCoopers appointed Randal Vallen as its Southern California Assurance and Entertainment, Media and Technology Practice leader, based in Los Angeles.


HOCKEY

The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League hired Donn Bag-nall as director of ticket sales. Bagnall was previously senior manager of premium seats and suites with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Florida Panthers named Jim Pizzutelli the team’s medical trainer/massage therapist. Pizzutelli was with the Buffalo Sabres.


MOTORSPORTS

NASCAR appointed longtime crew chief Robin Pemberton to vice president of communications. Pemberton was previously with Ford Racing as field manager.


SPORTING GOODS AND APPAREL

Laurence Applebaum was named commercial director for Amer Sports Europe. Applebaum will oversee the regions of Finland, Sweden (Denmark), Spain (Portugal), the Czech Republic and all export markets, including Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Christian Singer, now marketing manager, will be promoted to business director for Wilson Racket and Team Sports Europe.


FACILITIES

The Lancaster (Pa.) Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League hired Joe Pinto as general manager and Gina Stepoulos as assistant general manager. Both come from the Frederick (Md.) Keys.


MEDIA

Strader
Fox Sports Net Florida named Dave Strader television play-by-play voice of the Florida Panthers.

FSN Rocky Mountain promoted Ken Miller to executive producer. Miller had been senior producer and director.


MARKETING

Action Sports Media promoted Bill Hodge to vice president of sales. Hodge was director of sales for the East region.

Gilco Sports & Entertainment Marketing hired Lisa Attman as director of corporate alliances and marketing, and promoted Jamie Cohen to director of local sales and marketing from assistant director of marketing.

Goldenberg
Alexander Global Promotions, manufacturer of bobblehead dolls and sports promotional products, added Todd Goldenberg as national sales director for its sports promotional accounts.


AWARDS AND BOARDS

Jair Lynch was elected to the newly created board of directors for the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association named Ray Lane of UPN-TV50 winner of the 2003 Ty Tyson Excellence in Sports Broadcasting Award. John Lewandowski, associate athletic director-media relations, Michigan State University, won the 2003 Kathy Best “Best of the Best Award.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers named Jeff Ajluni director of marketing and business development, Michael Pocchiari director of human resources, Scott Burgin director of information technology, Stephanie Prager marketing manager, Jeff Ryan broadcasting manager, Jay Campbell, Judy McGrath, Jennean Morrison and Todd Tolrud to broadcast sales, Deana Scurlock human resources assistant, Will Sprague controller, Anne Ansley accounting manager, Jennifer Stewart accounts payable/payroll assistant, Matt May team photographer and Katie Hyslop consumer service representative.
