Brasileiro Side Santos Signs New Supply Deal With Umbro

Brasileiro side Santos announced a "renegotiated deal with Umbro," according to SOCCEREX. The English sportswear manufacturer will supply equipment to the club until '20, beginning on March 1. Santos President José Carlos Peres, who joined in December, "had threatened to break the contract" signed by his predecessor with Umbro in October. The original agreement would have seen Umbro pay R$7.5M ($2.3M) per year, "which was questioned by the new Santos board" since fellow Brasileiro side Grêmio receives R$17M ($5.2M) per year for a similar deal with Umbro. Following renegotiations, Umbro agreed to a new deal with Santos which sees the manufacturer "increase the royalty amounts paid" by around 50% (SOCCEREX, 2/20).
