NFL Free Agency Light On Suspense After Early Negotiating

NFL free agency officially begins today at 4:00pm ET, but a "wild Tuesday spoiled most of the suspense." There have already been "agreements reported for more than 30" of the top 100 free agents (ESPN.com, 3/13). Teams were "allowed to begin negotiations with potential free agents starting Monday, kicking off what many jokingly refer to as a two-day 'legal tampering period'" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 3/14). In effect, "by the time free agency begins, it will be over" (SI.com, 3/14).

By this time next week, there will be "countless columns across the internet proclaiming the winners and losers of free agency." But that award "still hasn't made it into the annual NFL Honors show on the eve of the Super Bowl" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/14). Even in March, "everyone's talking football." Nobody "does it better than the NFL, with the just-completed NFL Combine, the upcoming NFL Draft, mini-camps, OTA's, etc." (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 3/14).
