The Crew named former Kraken VP/Marketing & Broadcast HEIDI DETTMER CMO. Dettmer will drive the club's brand and fan engagement efforts. She will directly oversee all marketing functions including branding, advertising, creative services, special events, social media, grassroots and community impact and content production. She joins the Crew this week (Crew).

F1 and Liberty Media continue to ramp up hiring around next year’s Vegas Grand Prix. According to LinkedIn, F1 has named former Under Armour exec PETER GANSLER VP/Commercial Partnerships, and it also moved its Sales Manager of Global Partnerships SCOTT TUCKER, who had worked for the overall series, into the new role of Dir of Partnership Development for the Vegas race. It also named Allegiant Stadium Assistant Box Office Manager SANDY SAN NICOLAS VP/Ticket Operations and former Formula E exec JENNIFER GAZEAS Dir of Overlay & Track (Adam Stern, SBJ).

The San Antonio Sports BOD promoted Senior VP & COO JENNY CARNES to President & CEO. Carnes succeeds RUSS BOOKBINDER, who last month announced he was stepping down at the end of the year to spend more time with family (San Antonio Sports).
 
The NWSL Washington Spirit named former Florida State women's soccer coach MARK KRIKORIAN President of Soccer Operations and GM, according to sources. Krikorian is "expected to sign a multiyear contract with the Spirit and begin work immediately" (WASHINGTON POST, 6/14).
 
The Big Ten has aligned with KAGR CEO JESSICA GELMAN as a consultant for the conference, sources tell SBJ. Gelman will be most active in helping the conference develop its data management strategy and identify growth opportunities (Michael Smith, SBJ College).
 
The Penguins promoted Dir of Player Personnel CHRIS PRYOR to Assistant GM. Pryor in his new role will assist GM RON HEXTALL in "all aspects of hockey operations and be involved in all personnel decisions." Meanwhile, the Penguins also promoted video coach ANDY SAUCIER to a newly created role of Hockey Operations Analyst/Pro Personnel. Saucier "will serve as a conduit between the coaching staff and analytics department," and he also "will be involved in player personnel decisions and aid with pro scouting." The Penguins also added GM/Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to Hockey Operations Manager ERIK HEASLEY's title (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 6/15).
 
The Players Championship named longtime volunteer HOUSTON BOWLES Chair. Bowles, a federal account manager for North Florida at Florida Blue, has lived on the First Coast since '98 and "began volunteering at The Players almost immediately." He has served on the committees for the "Benefactor Tent, commissary, corporate hospitality, ecology, general parking, off-site parking, volunteer parking, VIP parking and walking scorers." Bowles replaces MATT WELCH, who now becomes part of the Honourable Company of Past Chairmen. Meanwhile, The Players also named fellow longtime volunteer LAURA RENSTROM to its leadership committee (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 6/15).
 
The Univ. of Texas-Arlington named Arkansas Deputy AD JON FAGG AD. Fagg will join UTA on Aug. 1, one month after the school joins the Western Athletic Conference (UTA).
 
The Univ. of North Carolina promoted Secretary/Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs CLAYTON SOMERS to Administrative Dir (UNC).
 
Wake Forest named former Univ. of Texas Assistant AD/Student-Athlete Development and the 4EVER TEXAS Program ARIN DUNN Senior Associate AD/Student-Athlete Development & Administration (Wake Forest).
