ESPN's Wojnarowski Apologizes For Profane Message To U.S. Senator

Wojnarowski does not want to leave the network, and the feeling from ESPN is mutualESPN Images

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said he "regretted sending that email" with a profane message to U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) in response to Hawley's dismissal of the NBA integrating Black Lives Matter into its season, according to Andrew Marchand of the N.Y. POST. Wojnarowski said that he is "fully regretful for his actions that led to what he thinks is the first suspension of his life, a two-week timeout without pay that has just concluded." Wojnarowski on ESPN's punishment: "I understood the decision they made. I accept it. I left them no choice. You can't do what I did and not expect there to be consequences." He added, "My action caused me to be the news and I regret that. ... I took away focus from the company." Wojnarowski said that he "left voice messages at Hawley's office in Washington and Missouri, but did not hear back." Wojnarowski: "I can't send an email like that to a senator or anybody in my position at ESPN. That's not a way I can express myself." Marchand noted Wojnarowski "does not want to go anywhere," and the "feeling from ESPN is mutual." ESPN Exec VP/Content Connor Schell said, "Woj is extraordinary at what he does as a trusted NBA newsbreaker. He made a mistake here, owned it and apologized for it. We are in a good place for this season and beyond" (N.Y. POST, 7/25).
