Triple-A PCL Las Vegas 51s Set To Undergo Rebrand After 18 Seasons

The Triple-A PCL Las Vegas 51s next season will "say goodbye" to their ballpark, major league affiliate and now nickname after officially announcing "plans to rebrand," according to Betsy Helfand of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. The 51s are "seeking fan input to help name the team, launching a naming sweepstakes, and asking fans to submit their favorite names" online until April 30. The club, in its 18th year with the nickname 51s after being called Stars for its first 18 seasons, "doesn’t anticipate releasing the new name until November." The 51s are working with Brandiose to "help with the rebrand" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 4/17). In Las Vegas, Alan Snel noted club owner Howard Hughes Corp. is moving the team "from downtown’s Cashman Field" to a site next to the Golden Knights’ training center in '19, and the Mets are "ending their relationship with Las Vegas" after this season. 51s GM Chuck Johnson said that formal affiliate talks "can’t start until September" (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 4/16).
