Media Notes

Fox Sports President Ed Goren said that the net, which takes over coverage of the BCS following the ’06 season, “is looking at adding new wrinkles to BCS coverage, such as moving the pregame crew used for the title game to each of the other BCS games instead of staying at the site of the final.” Pilson Communications President Neal Pilson “expects Fox ‘to become a player’ in college football, partly to effectively sell ad time.” Pilson: “It’s pretty tough to sell four games. You need a slightly larger game package” (Michael Hiestand, USA TODAY, 12/14).

MAX IS BACK: In Boston, Ron Borges reports former ESPN boxing analyst Max Kellerman will be part of HBO’s plan to increase its boxing coverage. Kellerman will serve in a role “analogous to the one now filled by Larry Merchant” on “Championship Boxing” and PPV events. Merchant “will continue to work in that role, but there seems little question that HBO is grooming Kellerman to eventually replace him” (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/14).
