Mike Alden

Associate Teaching Professor - College of Education; and former Athletic Director, University of Missouri

Mike Alden retired from the position of Director of Athletics at the University of Missouri in August of 2015.  Alden served in that capacity for 17 years, beginning in August of 1998 through his retirement in August of 2015.  Alden has also been the Director of Athletics at Texas State University (1996-98) and held executive management positions at the University of New Mexico and Arizona State University.  

Alden played college football at the University of Evansville and coached football at both Evansville and the University of Pennsylvania.  Alden holds degrees from the University of Evansville (B.S. Business Administration; B.A. Business Education) and Arizona State University (MEd Educational Administration/Supervision)

Some of the numerous accomplishments for Alden during his tenure in college athletics include:

President of the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA)
Chair of the NCAA Leadership Council
Under Armour Director of Athletics of the Year
Sports Business Journal Athletic Director of the Year (finalist)
State of Missouri Sports Hall of Fame
National Association of College Director’s of Athletics(NACDA) Hall of Fame
Transitioned the University of Missouri to the Southeastern Conference

Alden is an Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Education at Missouri, focusing on leadership, ethics, management and process designing for higher education.  Alden is also establishing the Center for International Leadership and Learning which coordinates study/research for faculty and students worldwide.  Alden is currently focusing on Vietnam, in establishing/expanding research/study engagement. Following the initiation of efforts in Vietnam, Alden will expand these efforts in South Africa and South America.  A central priority in Alden’s teaching and international research/study is servant leadership.

Highly regarded by his peers in athletics and academia, Alden is seen as a leader in University, Conference and National initiatives.  He is a very visible and highly sought speaker on leadership and management nationally.
