Mets unveil 'City Connect' that honors NYC, hopes for wide appeal

Mets
The Mets on Friday unveiled their new Nike City Connect uniforms, which feature a dark gray base, black pinstripes and notes of purple throughout, a nod to the New York City Subway’s 7 line, which stops at Citi Field. The launch represents Aramark’s largest inventory for a single event in the company’s history, said Katie Haas, Mets EVP/Ballpark Operations and Experience. Accordingly, Haas is optimistic about record-setting sales figures. “You don't necessarily have to be a Mets fan to embrace this design,” Haas said. “It’s cool, it's fun, it’s totally different from the orange and blue. Most of all, it has ‘NYC’ across the chest. That translates to non-Mets fans, to non-baseball fans, so I think there's going to be a demand for this as it relates to the fashionable and streetwear aspect.”

The timing of their City Connect launch is fortuitous for the Mets, who revamped their team store this offseason to double the size of its footprint at Citi Field. “The team store renovation was not because of City Connect,” Haas said, “but it sure does help.” The Mets began conceptualizing their City Connect design, which features the Queensboro Bridge across the front of the hat and “The World’s City” written above the jersey’s jock tag, in 2021. The team will debut its new uniforms on the field on April 27. The organization plans to integrate its City Connect concept across Citi Field on days in which the team is wearing the uniforms, such as City Connect-themed video board graphics and special logos on baseballs.
Through the first week of the launch, the Mets’ City Connect products are available in store and online at the Mets Team Store, MLB.com, Nike.com, Nike Retail Stores and MLB’s Flagship store in Manhattan. After this initial period, products will be available at additional retail stores.

The Mets are the second team to launch their City Connect line this season after the Phillies did so earlier this month. Seven more are set to unveil new City Connect uniforms later this season: the Guardians, Tigers, Dodgers, Twins, Cardinals, Rays and Blue Jays. Those teams will all debut their new uniforms before the All-Star Break.
