Ohio State spring game to air on Fox in first for national network

Ohio State’s spring football game at Ohio Stadium on Saturday will be broadcast on Fox, the first time "any national network has broadcast a spring game,” according to Bill Rabinowitz of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. Fox analyst Joel Klatt said, “Over the years, like the NFL, college football has become more of a year-round sport. ... This is a natural next step for us, to be more involved on more of a year-round basis.” Rabinowitz noted Klatt will serve in his normal color analyst role and Jason Benetti will do play-by-play, with Brady Quinn and Urban Meyer as analysts along with reporter Jenny Taft. A spring game “can’t have the drama of a real game,” so Fox is “modifying its coverage.” Klatt said, “We’re going to get more access than we normally get in the fall. It’s going to be built more like a studio show. Our topics will be planned out -- less reaction to the action on the field -- and we’ll talk through topics.” OSU Senior Associate AD Brett Scarbrough said that as of Thursday afternoon, the school “had sold 56,000 tickets.” Rabinowitz noted the expectation is that "about 78,000 tickets will be sold.” Children under six and OSU students are admitted without charge, so attendance “could be considerably higher” (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 4/11).
