Barclays record sponsorship deal to double investment in WSL, Women's Championship

Barclays will “pay roughly” $11M per season for the new title sponsorship rights alone, around “twice as much”Getty Images

The Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship are “on the verge” of securing a record sponsorship deal, with Barclays “set to double its investment in the two leagues,” according to Tom Garry of the London TELEGRAPH. Garry noted the bank will “pay roughly” $11M per season for the new title sponsorship rights alone, around “twice as much” as was paid for the existing 2022-2025 arrangement. The new three-year deal “will be seen as one of the first big boosts for NewCo,” which will take over the running of the top two women’s leagues in England from the FA this summer, and its bid to make the divisions “commercially sustainable.” Barclays has also been a sponsor of the Premier League since the 2001-02 season (London TELEGRAPH, 4/3).
