Rockies TV future remains uncertain as MLB regular season approaches

The Rockies continue to say that negotiations are “ongoing to find a way for fans to watch games on systems like Comcast, Dish Network or DirectTV,” but there are “no guarantees” that a deal will be worked out before the start of the MLB regular season, according to Patrick Saunders of the DENVER POST. The Rockies last month launched their online streaming service -- Rockies.TV -- that will "show all Rockies games this season," with MLB producing and distributing the games." MLB also will "remove blackouts for fans." While streaming all sports, not just baseball, is the “wave of the future,” it is “going to be a hard sell” for the club. Several fans said that they “won’t pay $19.99 monthly to watch a team that lost 103 games last season.” Two years ago, the Rockies drew an average of just 15,000 household viewers per game via traditional TV (DENVER POST, 3/23).
