UMass conference moving to NYC; Scout to be top sponsor
UMass’ Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management is relocating its Sport Leaders Forum to New York City, with help from Scout Sports and Entertainment, which has taken a presenting sponsorship and will host the conference at its offices.
In moving the 4-year-old event off campus for the first time, school officials and Scout execs hope the change of venue will allow the student-run and targeted event to draw attendees from more colleges and tap into the bevy of sports industry professionals based in New York.
“We’re building the Scout brand within the industry, of course, but we also have nothing but respect for the students coming out of UMass, as we look to attract tomorrow’s industry leaders,” said Michael Neuman, Scout executive vice president and managing partner.
Headliners for the March 30 conference include Burke Magnus, ESPN executive vice president of scheduling and programing, an M.S. alumnus of the UMass sport management program; and Oak View Group CEO Tim Leiweke. Other speakers for the 6 1/2-hour forum include Bonnie Bernstein, Len Elmore, John Kosner, Jeff Price, Maurice Stinnett, Jeff Ianello and Todd McCormack.
Additional sponsors are 47 Brand, AEG and Catapult Sports.
