NBC’s Jimmy Fallon: “I want to say congrats to the New York Yankees, who are moving on to the American League Championship Series, and congrats to the Mets, who are moving on to binge-watch season 8 of ‘Friends.’ ... You could tell the Yankees were feeling good when they popped champagne, lit cigars, and it was only the second inning.” More Fallon: “China is refusing to broadcast NBA games after the Houston Rockets GM spoke out in support of Hong Kong’s protesters. It’s a bad situation, because the NBA needs China to grow their fan base and to make their shoes” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 10/8).
“SNL” cast member Kenan Thompson talked about portraying David Ortiz on the show, saying he was “thankful” Ortiz liked his impression after he recovered from being shot in the Dominican Republic. Thompson: “I was worried when I heard the news story over the summer, I was like, ‘Oh no, my career.’” Thompson said after hearing that Ortiz would recover, “I was like, ‘Well, how long is it going to be till we can, kind of, do it again?’” NBC's Seth Meyers: “I feel like that’s how you know he’s all the way back, is that you were making fun of him again.” Thompson said Ortiz “responded and said he saw it, and he liked it” (“Late Night,” NBC, 10/8).
