CBS' Danielson Criticized For Handling Of Injured Photographer

CBS' Gary Danielson was criticized for "chuckling as cameras showed an unconscious photographer being put on a stretcher" during Saturday's Georgia-Auburn game, according to Sara Jane Harris of SPORTING NEWS. Danielson later "appeared to ask" if the photographer, Chamberlain Smith, was "paying attention to the game" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 11/16). The Athletic's Stewart Mandel wrote Danielson's "handling of this photographer injury has been ... not good." SI.com's Pat Forde: "Gary Danielson has called every single element of this collision and injury incorrectly." Rivals.com's Mike Farrell: "Nothing like Gary Danielson laughing at an injury of a woman on the sidelines. My god." The San Antonio Express-News' Mike Finger: "I don't call for firings, as a general rule. But he was the last guy in the stadium (and in the TV audience) to realize a photographer was injured. Then he laughed about it. Then he wondered aloud if she was to blame. If he can't do better than that, get out of the booth" (TWITTER.com, 11/16). However, THE ATHLETIC's John Walters writes Danielson was a "little careless, but hardly malicious." Walters: "When there's no malicious intent, let's forgive and move on, shall we?" Meanwhile, play-by-play announcer Brad Nessler "appreciated the gravity of the injury quickly and was able to curb Danielson's inaccurate speculation." Additionally, sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl deserves credit for being "on the scene in seconds" (THEATHLETIC.com, 11/18).

NOT A GOOD LOOK: In K.C., Grathoff & Newell noted FS1's Dan Hellie and Ben Leber "made mention of the father" of Kansas WR Kwamie Lassiter during Saturday's KU-Oklahoma State game, and Hellie "even cracked a joke." However, Lassiter's father died in January. Leber later apologized on Twitter (K.C. STAR, 11/16).
