Adidas Helps Get Snoop Dogg To Kansas' Annual Hoops Party
Snoop Dogg will be the headliner for Friday’s 35th annual Late Night in the Phog at Allen Fieldhouse, and credit to the Univ. of Kansas' apparel partner Adidas for "doing a lot of the heavy lifting," according to Matt Tait of the LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD. Snoop Dogg is a "part of the Adidas entertainment family, and those ties certainly helped KU bring him to Lawrence for Late Night." KU Associate AD/Marketing & Video Services J.T. Geren said that the goal for this year's event was to "bring in an artist who would appeal to a broader cross-section of fans." The past three years, KU has "brought Tech N9ne, Lil Yachty and 2 Chainz to the fieldhouse for Late Night." Snoop Dogg's connection to Adidas "made the partnership possible." Some things, such as "security and setting up Snoop Dogg’s dressing room, were KU’s responsibility." Other elements, such as "travel arrangements, lodging and hospitality were left to Adidas." Geren said that the money to pay for Snoop Dogg's appearance "comes from a clause in the contract" between KU and Adidas that "sets aside $1,100,000 annually for a 'Marketing Fund.'" Snoop Dogg's asking price was "negotiated between Adidas and the rapper’s representatives" (LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD, 10/4).
