Riot Games Hiring EA's Jason Bunge As Company's First CMO
Riot Games today will announce its first ever CMO by bringing aboard Electronic Arts veteran Jason Bunge, creating the new role as the company evolves into a multi-game publisher. Bunge, who previously served as senior vice president of brand management and marketing for EA, will now oversee game marketing and product publishing for Riot, the publisher of the biggest video game in the world, League of Legends.
Riot this year started to publish other games besides LoL after initially spending the first 10 years of its history just focused on the one game, so Bunge will help the company’s transition to a video game maker that has multiple titles to market. He will report to Riot President of Worldwide Publishing Jin Oh. It was not clear whether Riot found Bunge in-house or through an executive search firm.
Oh said in a statement, “Jason’s proven track record of deploying and sustaining games and his deep understanding of players are exactly the combination we were looking for in a CMO. We knew we needed to find someone who connects with players and has demonstrated success in executing innovative campaigns.”
