SBJ All-Access: Ticketing Symposium Gets Started In L.A.

Los Angeles is the backdrop for this year's AXS Sports Facilities & Franchises and Ticketing Symposium. A crowd of over 375 execs are gathered at the Sheraton Grand in downtown to discuss in-stadium engagement, fan enhancements, innovations in ticketing, changing fan preferences and new revenue opportunities. Day 1 of the conference today focuses on ticketing, with panels highlighting the future of the season ticket, subscription-based models, marketing strategies, customization and omni-channel distribution. The featured Q&A of Day 1 is a chat with Ilitch Holdings President & CEO Chris Granger, whose organization runs the Tigers and Red Wings, among other entities. There is also a featured presentation from WarnerMedia President of Applied Analytics Matthew Marolda. If you're attending the conference, be sure to check out conferences.sbjsbd.com for full speaker bios and a agenda for the event. Also get updates from our Twitter feed (@SBJSBD) and follow along using the hashtags #sbjtix (Tuesday) and #sbjsff (Wednesday and Thursday).

  • The conference began this morning with a live stream of SBJ Executive Editor & Publisher Abe Madkour talking shop with AXS CEO Bryan Perez, T'Wolves and WNBA Lynx COO Ryan Tanke and Rockets CRO Gretchen Sheirr. Topics included franchise messaging, the future and evolution of the season ticket, trends in the business that each exec is following and advice they would give young people trying to crack into sports business. Check out the link here to see the discussion.

STARTING THINGS OFF

  • Around 50 people were at The Mixing Room at the JW Marriott last night for a kick off private reception hosted by AXS. Meat balls, lamp chops and tuna tacos were among the heavy hors d'oeuvres for guests. Spotted at the event were AXS' Bryan Perez, AEG President & CEO Dan Beckerman, AEG Facilities President Bob Newman, the Rockets' Gretchen Sheirr, AXS CRO Rob Sine, SBJ's Abe Madkour and AEG/Staples Center Senior VP/Premium Seating Michele Kajiwara (who was honored last week at our annual Game Changers event).

  • You should try to ask AXS' Bryan Perez about plans for his 52nd birthday tomorrow. He can’t stay at the conference because he’s going to Houston to see The Who play at Toyota Center along with 10 of his high school friends. And speaking of birthdays, AEG’s Dan Beckerman quietly turned 50 earlier this month.

  • Attendees last night were able to take in a Ducks-Kings preseason game at Staples Center. There was plenty of black and silver in the crowd for a Monday night game -- with attendance listed at 12,746. Among those spotted in the hotel lobby prior to the game were the Rockets' Gretchen Sheirr and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment's Jake Reynolds, who last week was promoted to president of the Devils. Other conference attendees spotted at the game were USTA Senior Manager of Business Operations Mauricio Fischmann, MGM Resorts Corporate Manager for Group & Premium Sales Corey Silva and Turnkey Intelligence VP/Property Sales Erika Gunerman. Tonight, conference attendees will head back to the venue for activities and a tour, along with a Q&A with Staples Center/L.A. Live President Lee Zeidman.
