more About you

Most important lesson learned in 2020: You can’t control everything, but focus on what is within your control.

Ways to network or stay connected with peers this year: I try to touch base with 1-3 people (both old and new) each week and typically do that via LinkedIn and other groups I’m involved in like The Sport Sorority and theClubhouse.

Go-to person when I need help: My younger brother, Max, is an unbelievable sounding board; my parents, Rhonda and Marc, who are always there to listen and learn; my significant other, Matt, who is my biggest supporter and voice of reason; my best girlfriends, who are my biggest cheerleaders.

My inspiration: My 96-year-old grandfather — or as I call him, Papa. A legendary businessman, a Navy veteran, a Southern gentleman, and one of the most humble men I’ve ever met, he inspires me to work hard, take pride in my work, and to make sure people remember you!

In the industry

Biggest surprise when I started my career: How many people have no clue what PR and communications professionals actually do.

Most exciting aspect of sports business: The ability to make news, newsjack, and insert clients into the news cycle at nearly any given moment. There is such a thrill in making an initiative or launch go viral via earned media and truly being business accelerators for clients.

Sports should address social issues by: Sports are a microcosm for society as a whole, often serving as a vehicle of change, teaching us valuable lessons, and addressing issues across the board. We must continue pushing each other to talk about the uncomfortable topics and be better advocates for those who need it most.

Sports industry needs to do a better job of … : Removing hidden biases and barriers to entry into the industry like socioeconomic status, race, and gender.
