more About you

Most important lesson learned in 2020: Surrender the outcome and embrace failure as an opportunity for growth.

Go-to person when I need help: Reggie Scott, vice president of sports medicine and performance at the Los Angeles Rams. He is an extraordinary leader with a unique perspective whose patience and compassion are unmatched.

My inspiration: My grandparents. They immigrated to the United States with three young kids. Despite a minimal education and the language barrier, they made no excuses for themselves, and their sacrifice has provided our entire family a better opportunity in life. Because of their hard work and determination, they own successful Mexican restaurants in Tucson, Ariz., that have been featured on Food Network and Travel Channel.

In the industry

Biggest surprise when I started my career: I was surprised to learn organizations value culture fit over experience. I felt like I had to be 100% qualified for a role in order to even apply, but in both my roles at Arizona football and now at the Rams I was hired for fit and have been taught my role.

Most exciting aspect of sports business: The exponential growth of technology and how it can improve all facets of sports business, especially now given how COVID has changed our everyday lives and industry as a whole.

Sports should address social issues by: Recently, many organizations have done a better job at utilizing their platforms to make an impact off the field. By continuing to make the conversation a priority, we can invoke real change.

Sports industry needs to do a better job of … : Recognizing the people in our organizations who work behind the scenes to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
