Envy Gaming's Mark Coughlin bullish on esports’ opportunity

Envy Gaming Chief Revenue Officer Mark Coughlin said his immediate focus during the sports shutdown is finding a way to “deliver value” to those that support the esports company “in a time where there's not a lot of consumerism going on.” Coughlin, speaking yesterday at the CAA World Congress Comes To You virtual conference, noted his team has several partners with sponsorships in place, some of whom have “even paid in front of some of the delivery.” Coughlin: “Now it's a matter of determining what are the assets that we can provide them.” Meanwhile, with most of the nation ordered to stay home at this time, Coughlin said he would be remiss if Envy didn’t recognize the “huge opportunity” in the esports space. He cited Activision Blizzard’s Battle.net app suffering outages as a result of a newly released war zone in “Call of Duty.” Coughlin: “The play is out of control because everybody's stuck at home.” However, he stressed it is not appropriate to capitalize on a unique and unrivaled moment in history: “We can't be so shortsighted. We're just starting to have relationships here with major brands, right? We're going to do the right thing. We have to do the right thing or we're never going to see them back again, right? The last thing we want to do is have that bad memory, ‘Oh, I worked at those guys and they ripped me off where everybody else worked with me.’"
