Forty Under 40

What was the most memorable sporting event you attended?

TJ Adeshola

2019 Masters — Tiger Woods’ historic victory.

Whit Albohm

My First NASCAR race: Loudon, N.H., in 2003 with NBC Sports. It was my first time in a TV compound and experiencing production.

Nic Barlage

Masters. The business model fascinates me, and it would be a dream to be a member of Augusta National.

Michael Behan

Super Bowl XLII, the New York Giants beating the previously undefeated Patriots. There is no better experience in sports than watching the team you grew up rooting for win a championship.

Gabe Braselton

Texans at Chiefs in the 2020 AFC Divisional Playoffs ranks up there. Watching your team wipe out a 24-point deficit in a quarter was astounding. Being in Arrowhead for the start of the their playoff run to the Super Bowl was amazing.

Austin Brown

2016 World Series, Game 7 — Cubs victory. I’m from Chicago — enough said.

Nate Checketts

Game 3 of the 1999 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, when Larry Johnson converted a four-point play to beat the Pacers. I’ll never forget how wild the Garden went during that moment.

Arjun Chowdri

I love the Little League World Series because of the purity of it and the way it brings children together across cultures to create this awesome immersive learning experience. Even the sideline parent keeps quiet!

Ahron Cohen

Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona because I was the lawyer for the host committee and played a role in bringing it to life.

Wes Day

Duke-Carolina in Cameron (in student section).

Bethany Donaphin

My first New York Liberty game. It changed what I thought was possible for me as an athlete.

Michael Fedele

Yankees winning the World Series in 1996, with Boggs on the horse, with my dad.

Geoff Garmhausen

2006 Ohio State vs. Michigan (The Game of the Century); first time ever meeting as No. 1 vs No. 2; Big Ten Championship and berth in BCS Championship on the line; I went with my dad and most importantly, an Ohio State win!

Jessie Giordano

2010 FIFA World Cup. I met my husband there and the culture blend there for our company was wonderful to see.

Ishwara Glassman Chrein

Wimbledon. I love tennis, London, and strawberries and cream.

Adam Grossman

2004 Game 7 of ALCS vs. the Yankees. I was in the clubhouse before the game while a few players were watching “Miracle.” Celebrating in Yankee Stadium was surreal (especially after 2003).

Ben Gumpert

First game at Golden 1 Center. Was the culmination of decades of effort and the energy and spirit in the building reflected that.

Brian Herbst

Wimbledon. It’s a different world.

David Jurenka

Taking my oldest son to a World Series game in 2018 (Red Sox vs. Dodgers).

Nick Kelly

Game 7 in 2016, when the Cubs finally won the World Series.

Akshay Khanna

SB LI. My Pats came back from 28-3 down to beat the Falcons 34-28.

Francesca Leiweke-Bodie

When the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012. After many years of watching the Kings through good and bad seasons, to see the team hoist the Stanley Cup for thousands of us cheering fans in one of the loudest environments I’d ever heard at Staples Center is something I will always remember.

Joe Maczko

Michigan football vs. Notre Dame 1991. I was 8 years old and Desmond Howard’s diving touchdown catch started my love affair with University of Michigan sports.

Andrea Marini

FIFA World Cup Final 2006. Italy won the World Cup. My dad and I gave away our premium tickets in exchange for tickets that seated us in the middle of the Italian supporters.

Joseph Markowski

Chelsea winning the Carling Cup against Liverpool in 2005 at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff with the roof on.

Zach Maurides

Army-Navy Game. The history and pageantry are incredible.

Maura McGreevy

UFC 202: Diaz vs. McGregor 2 on Aug. 20, 2016, at T-Mobile Arena, right after Endeavor acquired UFC. I have never experienced anything like it. Electric.

Jared Merrell

Clemson’s national championship in 2017 for multiple reasons: 1) As an alumni of Clemson University and student assistant with the football team, my passion for Clemson football runs deep. 2) More importantly, I was able to share that experience with my dad who was a big supporter in my pursuit of a career in the sports industry and a big reason why I attended Clemson.

Tanja Olano

The men’s soccer final at the 2016 Rio Olympics was incredible to attend. It was moving to see the emotions of the host nation, Brazil, knowing what that win meant to them, in the context of not having won Olympic gold previously during an Olympic tournament.

Melissa Proctor

My very first preseason game as a ball girl for the Miami Heat. It was magical. Prior to that I had never been to a professional sporting event and I can never forget that feeling of walking onto an NBA court for the first time.

Uzma Rawn

The Cubs winning the World Series in 2016 was epic, and Kobe’s last game at Staples Center.

Neema Sahni

Patriots’ win over the Bears in December 2010. It was in the midst of a terrible blizzard, temperatures were below freezing at Soldier Field, and the Pats destroyed the Bears. I traveled to Chicago for the game with my now-husband, who is a huge Bears fan and former Chicago resident.

Brent Schoeb

2019 NFC Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium as it was the culmination of my first winning season (start to finish) in my career.

Adam Schwartz

2010 Vancouver men’s figure skating final. I had never witnessed such an intense arena as when the defending champion from Russia Plushenko did his final performance and ultimately lost out American Evan Lysachek.

Russell Scibetti

Game 1 of the 1998 World Series (Yankees vs. Padres). First championship game I’ve ever attended, and a fun come-from-behind win for the Yankees.

Ari Segal

Game 5 of the 2000 World Series, with my dad. Seeing my first live, championship-clinching moment with the person who introduced me to sports was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Ryan Spoon and son Dillon

Ryan Spoon

Last year, I had the great fortune of watching the Patriots win the Super Bowl with my son Dillon and fellow Forty Under 40 recipient TJ from Twitter!

Jared Stacy

Kobe’s final game in 2016. Kobe came to the Lakers when I was 16. I watched him win three titles when I was in college, then wound up working with the Lakers for 17 seasons. I traveled with the team from 2004-11 and worked in the truck for the true prime of his career. That last game was wild. We had worked for months on the planning of that production and only Kobe would have the gall to drop 60 on 50 shots. … It was an incredibly special night and all the more poignant now.

Ben Tario

FSU vs. Auburn in the 2014 BCS National Championship. Why? First experience at the Rose Bowl on a picture perfect evening and the resulting ACC and FSU national championship.

Shelly Wilkes

NBA Finals 2009 because the Orlando Magic were in the Finals for the first time since 1995.
