No major sports property will rely more on its data deal than NASCAR, which tapped Herbst to oversee the development of a sports betting product that it is building from scratch with Genius Sports. That product could open up a slew of sponsor opportunities for the sanctioning body, teams and tracks. Previously charged with oversight of NASCAR’s social media efforts, Warfield now is the sanctioning body’s day-to-day sports betting contact, taking the sport’s “open-for-business” message to sportsbooks, most of which have little familiarity with a sport that is rarely bet on.
