Seating company 4Topps gains traction in college football stadiums
4Topps Premium Seating got its start installing its mesh seats, bar stools and table units in minor and major league ballparks. Now the company is making a big push into college football stadiums.
4Topps seats and tables are being installed in stadium renovation and expansion projects at Ohio State, Missouri and TCU, and the company is in discussions with Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Florida State and Penn State to install seats and tables in their stadiums, said Deron Nardo, principal and president of the company.
After 4Topps’ first college football deal with the University of Colorado in 2014, the company landed only one or two small college footballs deals per year, Nardo said. 4Topps clients at the collegiate level were primarily SEC and ACC baseball programs. However, the company started to see increased interest from college football stadiums in recent years. Other clients have included the football stadiums of the University of Central Florida and Colorado State.
New seats from 4Topps, which are made in the company’s home state of North Carolina, were just installed in the loge boxes of Ohio Stadium as part of Ohio State’s $42 million renovation of the Horseshoe. The company’s table tops will be installed this week in the University of Missouri’s $100 million renovation of Faurot Field’s south end zone. In September, 4Topps will install caster seats and loose barstools in the loge boxes and 1,050 mesh row seats in the club section of TCU’s $100 million expansion of Fort Worth’s Amon G. Carter Stadium.
On average, installation and purchase deals for these projects are in the six-figure range, Nardo said.
4Topps was founded in 2011 and focused initially on minor and major league baseball. The company has 13 MLB clients including the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. In the minor leagues, 4Topps has about 60 customers, including ballparks coming online in 2020 in Wichita, Kan., and Fredericksburg, Va.
4Topps’ major selling point is its mesh design that makes seats cooler than traditional vinyl seats, which is an especially big attraction for venues in warm-weather locations.
