From 9 to 5: Baseball purists, look away

Thank you for your ideas and insight into the sports business world. I enjoy reading the latest trends and topics. Regarding baseball, has anyone proposed to MLB to have five-inning games instead of nine?

If the game is tied, extra innings as usual from the sixth through ninth. After the ninth, if the game is still tied, consider the game a tie. Ties haven’t hurt the NHL or NFL and create another level of intrigue, like interleague games and the All-Star Game winner-World Series host plan that was implemented.

I attended the longest World Series game in history here in L.A. The game started at 5:30 p.m. and was over at 12:30 a.m. Concessions closed in the ninth inning. People were hungry, thirsty, so they were forced to reopen, serving soda and garlic fries in my section.

You haven’t enjoyed baseball until you have seen a 14th-inning stretch come and go.

I’m sure baseball purists would object, but a five-inning game would definitely speed the game up, create aggressive strategy and facilitate a pace that is conducive to a 21st-century attention span.

Heck, you could even do a doubleheader!
