Define diversity to you; why is it important? Diversity in the workplace is having a variety of individuals who look, think and act differently. Not only is it the right thing to do, it is also the smart thing. Data shows diverse organizations operate more strategically, innovate better and drive greater financial results than those that aren’t.

HR’s role on diversity & inclusion: HR departments can help hold everyone accountable. They play a key role in keeping the value of diversity and inclusion in the forefront of our consciousness by asking the tough questions and providing solutions to help us to live up to the commitment of having a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Champion of diversity: Phil Knight. I remember sitting in a managers meeting in 1996 and being surrounded by really smart people of different races and genders. I believe Phil’s brilliance of building a diverse workforce long before diversity became the forefront of conversations helped Nike become the organization that it is today.
