McGuire pushes client list toward 30 with addition of veterans

Veteran NFL agent Kennard McGuire has signed several players during the offseason, including Houston Texans Pro Bowl offensive tackle Duane Brown, Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Brandon Mebane and Chicago Bears defensive tackle Ego Ferguson.

McGuire, owner of Houston-based MS World, also has signed Bears defensive tackle Brandon Dunn, as well as cornerback Alan Ball, who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. McGuire negotiated Ball’s one-year deal with the Bears earlier this year.

McGuire said all of the players had left their previous representation and approached him about representing them. “We are excited to have them as part of our family and are looking forward to our season,” McGuire said. “I think my reputation has always been about representing veteran guys.”

McGuire was first certified to represent NFL players in 1992, and former clients include five-time All-Pro offensive tackle Orlando Pace and wide receiver Torry Holt, who went to the Pro Bowl seven times. McGuire now represents about 30 players, including Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, 2014 Pepsi Rookie of the Year, as well as Bears Pro Bowl tight end Martellus Bennett.

Brown was represented by Ken Landphere of Octagon and Andy Ross, who left Octagon and is now with Select Sports Group.

Ball was represented by Morgan Advisory Group. Ferguson was formerly repped by Zeke Sandhu, who left Morgan Advisory Group. Mebane was with agent Chuck Price, who left the agent business to take a job as vice president of partnerships at the Jim Mora Count On Me Family Foundation.

Dunn had been representing himself. He signed with the Bears after going undrafted in 2014 and played at Louisville with McGuire client Bridgewater.

Mebane and Ball will be unrestricted free agents after this season.

> NFL AGENT SWITCHES: Baltimore Ravens safety Terrence Brooks has signed with Rosenhaus Sports agents Drew Rosenhaus and Michael Katz. Brooks, a third-round pick in 2014, was represented by agent Jordan Woy of Willis & Woy and Associates.

New York Giants defensive end Robert Ayers has signed with Select Sports Group agents Sean Kiernan and Erik Burkhardt. He was represented by Eastern Athletic Services. EAS’ founder and Ayers’ former agent, Tony Agnone, wrote in an email, “It was fun to be with him and we wish him the best.”

New York Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson has signed with Relativity Sports agents Ben Dogra, Eugene Parker and Kyle Evans. He was represented by Dogra and CAA Sports.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger has signed with CAA Football agents Jim Denton, Patrick Collins, Jimmy Sexton and Tom Condon. He was represented by JL Sports.

> IF MANAGEMENT SIGNS PELPHREY, WILSON: IF Management has signed former college basketball coach John Pelphrey and Fox Sports analyst and former MLB All-Star outfielder Preston Wilson for broadcast work and media opportunities.

Both will be represented by Gideon Cohen, IF Management vice president, sports broadcasting. Neither had been represented for broadcast work.

Pelphrey was most recently an assistant at Florida and had head coaching stints at Arkansas and South Alabama.

> UTA SIGNS VICKERS: United Talent Agency has signed NASCAR driver Brian Vickers for representation in all areas including broadcasting, television and film work, licensing and endorsements.

At UTA, he will be represented by Ryan Hayden and Jerry Silbowitz. Vickers was not previously represented but will continue to be managed by Gordon Gilbertson.
