Traeger departs BofA, joins NASCAR industry services

Making the short trek from one downtown Charlotte office to another, Chris Traeger has left Bank of America to join NASCAR and help guide its industry services department.

TRAEGER
Traeger, who was BofA’s senior vice president of sponsorship marketing, started with NASCAR late last week. He takes over as managing director of team marketing services, filling the opening that was created when Chad Seigler moved up to NASCAR vice president of business development in February.

Traeger, who spent a decade at BofA after serving as general counsel for Octagon, said he decided to pursue the role because he wanted to get back to working for a company whose focus was sports. He added that he also made the move because he thinks his background as a lawyer and consultant would be conducive to helping satisfy sponsors, which is the goal of the industry services department.

“In my legal days, I was always trying to find some common ground between two parties,” said Traeger, 43. “I think in this job, you’re trying to find common ground between NASCAR, the various teams and the sponsors. I’m familiar with what the challenges are for certain brands and what they look for in sponsorships, so I think that knowledge and the knowledge of how NASCAR is structured is going to be helpful.”
