Among the more recent deals she’s worked on are the agreements for Portland’s Moda Center (formerly the Rose Garden), Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium, and Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre (formerly the Kodak Theatre).

“We help a property develop their naming rights and sponsorship platform, including identifying inventory, creating the package and valuing the package,” Cheng said.

Her sights now are set on the Southeast. Cheng is working on selling the naming rights to the Atlanta Falcons’ planned new stadium, a venue that also will house an MLS expansion team. The stadium is set to open in 2017.

While Cheng would not talk about what price the naming rights for that venue might fetch, nor provide a time frame for when a deal may be completed, she said the deal will be noteworthy. “What I would think about that deal is, what we are talking about is changing the game,” she said. “We really are trying to break the mold on how you would get commercial sponsorship for new stadium development.”

  • Biggest professional achievement: Contributing role I was able to play in Premier’s growth over the last five years in terms of our sales successes, client acquisition and individual growth.
  • Biggest professional disappointment: That my dad passed away before he could be part of my major professional accomplishments.
  • Woman in sports business you’d most like to meet: Kim Ng. She was at the Dodgers while I was in college, and I’ve always admired her as someone who is paving the way for others without a whole lot of fanfare.
  • Best advice you’ve received: Neal Pilson’s 25 tips for effective leaders (published in SportsBusiness Journal, March 9-15, 2009).
  • Career turning point: The time John Kristick (now global CEO at GroupM ESP) spent at Premier in 2011 completely changed the way we were organized as a company from a sales process point of view, and the vision he brought to the company gave me the opportunity to take a formal leadership role at Premier.
  • Outside of work and family, I’m spending a lot of my time on … : Food, hiking, photography and travel.
