Knights break attendance record
The Class AAA Charlotte Knights through July 5 had seen 429,133 fans attend games at the club’s new downtown BB&T Ballpark, eclipsing the club’s season attendance record, set in 1993 in Fort Mill, S.C., according to a Charlotte Observer report. The team had sold out 22 of 45 games this season at the 10,200-seat ballpark.
Rooftop owners might not sue Cubs
Wrigleyville’s rooftop businesses are looking to strike a deal over signs at Wrigley Field, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Two rooftop owners said that the businesses have agreed not to sue the Chicago Cubs as long as the team pulls back from its recent push for more signs with more potential for blocked views.
NFL draft could pay a visit
NFL officials were in town late last month and met with city and Chicago Theatre officials about staging the 2015 NFL draft at the historic venue, according to a Crain’s Chicago Business report. The draft is on the move because of scheduling conflicts at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
XL Center getting video upgrades
TS Sports is partnering with Global Spectrum, the facility management company of the XL Center, on installing numerous video displays for the arena. This project will be installed by mid-September and will incorporate 30 new video displays.
Sponsors renew with golf tourney
The Knoxville News Sentinel and Pilot Flying J signed two-year extensions through 2016 to be the title sponsor and presenting sponsor, respectively, for the Web.com Tour event at Fox Den Country Club. The news outlet became title sponsor of the event in 2010, and Pilot joined as presenter in 2011.
Chalets selling out for 2015 PGA
Corporate hospitality sales for the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits have exceeded initial offerings more than a year in advance of the event. The PGA of America is opening an expansion plan to create additional private chalet locations on-course at hole 15 to complement the sold-out chalet locations at holes 9, 17 and 18.

A’s reach 10-year ballpark deal
The Oakland A’s and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority agreed on a new 10-year extension to play games at O.co Coliseum through the 2024 season. The agreement will be completed after approvals from both the Oakland City Council and Alameda County Board of Supervisors later this month.
The Orlando Magic and Sentient Jet reached a multiyear partnership renewal, naming Sentient the official private jet provider of the team. Sentient will provide Magic executives and Icon Suite members exclusive access to their private jet card program.
Magic gets mixed-use green light
The Magic got the go-ahead from the City Council to invest more than $200 million in a project next to the Amway Center. The mixed-use venue will feature a corporate headquarters for the team. Later phases will have a full-service hotel, conference center and residential and retail facilities.
Eagles open practices to fans
The Philadelphia Eagles are holding three open practices for fans this summer. Two of the practices will be at Lincoln Financial Field. The third will take place Aug. 10 at Franklin Field, the home of the Eagles 1958-70.
Freedoms to honor Sixers, King

Penguins renew AAA membership
The Pittsburgh Penguins renewed their partnership with AAA for the coming NHL season. The partnership includes in-arena digital signage, an in-game feature, print, radio, hospitality and official status as the official travel agency of the team.
Kings plan more lower-bowl seats
The Sacramento Kings’ new $477 million arena will seat 17,500 fans, just 200 seats more than Sleep Train Arena, according to a Sacramento Bee report. Far more seats will be in the lower bowl, however, translating into higher ticket prices.
3 Point to run Storm game presentation
3 Point Productions entered into a seasonlong partnership with the Seattle Storm to produce game presentation and enhance the fan experience. All Storm home games take place at KeyArena, and the WNBA regular season runs through Aug. 17.

A-League side Adelaide United FC unveiled a new major partnership with Datong Australia, a multinational Chinese developer. The partnership will see Datong become the Reds’ sleeve sponsor for the next two seasons.
French insurer renames stadium
French insurer Groupama acquired the naming rights to the new home of Hungarian football side Ferencvárosi Torna Club, according to a SoccerEx report. The long-term deal, brokered by Lagardère Unlimited Stadium Solutions, sees the 23,800-seat stadium in Budapest renamed the Groupama Aréna.
FC Cologne shopping with Rewe
Bundesliga club FC Cologne extended its shirt sponsorship deal with supermarket chain Rewe until 2018, according to an Express report. Rewe will pay more than $20 million provided Cologne remains in the Bundesliga during the contract’s three-year duration.
Barclays renames Sports Palace
The Community of Madrid Sports Palace will be known as the Barclaycard Arena starting Sept. 1 after Impulsa Eventos e Instalaciones, which manages the facility, reached an agreement with Barclays through 2023, according to an EFE report.
Stadium getting Mitsubishi upgrades
Mitsubishi Electric will install three Diamond Vision screens at the Sapporo Dome baseball/soccer stadium in Sapporo. The screens will be nearly three times larger, have five times the resolution and offer 1.5 times the contrast of the replaced screens. The screens will be fully operative for the baseball season starting in March.
Protesters want stadium intact
Hundreds of protesters marched around Tokyo’s National Stadium earlier this month, demonstrating against plans to destroy the 56-year-old facility and replace it with a structure for the 2020 Summer Olympics, according to an AP report.
