Bills, Tim Hortons extend 5 years

The Buffalo Bills and Tim Hortons reached a five-year extension that includes the branding of one of Ralph Wilson Stadium’s six new gates. The Tim Hortons gate will have a three-dimensional version of the company’s coffee cup atop the gate pylon.

Dunn Tire extends with Bills
The Bills and Dunn Tire extended their marketing sponsorship, keeping the retailer as the official tire dealer of the team. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. As part of the agreement, Michelin has been named the official tire of the Bills.

Cubs, Sox seek partner to name Cup

The Chicago Cubs and White Sox are searching for a corporate partner to put its name on the Crosstown Cup trophy, according to a Crain’s Chicago Business report. Both sides have been trying to find a new sponsor for the series since neither retained BP as a corporate partner after the 2012 season.

Voters renew sin tax to support facilities

Cuyahoga County (Ohio) voters last week overwhelmingly approved a cigarette and alcohol tax renewal to support Cleveland sports facilities, according to an Akron Beacon Journal report. The tax is expected to raise $260 million over the next 20 years to repay debts on athletic facilities for the Browns, Cavaliers and Indians.

Partners expand with Byron Nelson

Four long-standing partners of the HP Byron Nelson Championship will become the tournament’s first Premier Sponsors. Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, Bank of America and the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau all have expanded their commitment to the PGA Tour event.

Colts release 2,000 season tickets

The Indianapolis Colts last week made about 2,000 season tickets available for the 2014 season after about 95 percent of the team’s season-ticket holders renewed their seats, according to an Indianapolis Star report. The team has a season-ticket waiting list of about 7,000.

Mayor proposes different MLS site

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez last week upended negotiations with David Beckham and his investors by proposing that the group consider building an MLS stadium on the downtown waterfront, but not at PortMiami, according to a Miami Herald report. Gimenez proposed filling a massive boat slip between Museum Park and AmericanAirlines Arena.

Kawasaki titling AMA Pro weekend

Kawasaki Motors and New Jersey Motorsports Park reached a new partnership that will see the company become the title sponsor for AMA Pro Road Racing’s visit to the facility this fall. The weekend of Sept. 13-14 will be branded as the Kawasaki Devil’s Showdown.

U.S. Cellular not renewing arena deal

U.S. Cellular is not going to renew its naming-rights deal at the U.S. Cellular Arena, according to a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel report. The agreement will expire May 31. The original agreement began in 2000 and was renewed in 2007. The arena is home to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball team and the MISL Milwaukee Wave.

“Our Game,” commissioned by the Minnesota Twins, has been reproduced as 600 limited-edition prints and 30 full-size canvas reproductions.

‘Our Game’ painting depicts Target Field

A new All-Star Game commemorative print by Minnesota sports artist Terrence Fogarty, “Our Game,” depicts a vista of Target Field and a Twin Cities skyline behind a group of young players on the field. Proceeds from the sale of “Our Game” prints will benefit the Minnesota Twins Community Fund.

The New Jersey Devils held their inaugural Friends & Family Paint and Skate last month, where more than 600 fans were invited to paint personal messages on the ice at Prudential Center, skate at the AmeriHealth Pavilion and enjoy a number of family activities.

IndyCar considers Grand Prix fest

The Verizon IndyCar Series is exploring a race at NOLA Motorsports Park outside New Orleans. The potential three-day festival would culminate with the Grand Prix of Louisiana. Andretti Sports Marketing would organize the event.

Cosmos, radiology center renew deal

Main Street Radiology renewed its partnership as the New York Cosmos’ official imaging center. MSR has three offices in Bayside and Flushing and will be expanding to western Queens with a fourth office this fall.

OSEG, Pepsi reach multiyear deal

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group reached a multiyear deal with Pepsi as an official supplier for OSEG sports teams and the city’s new downtown sports and entertainment venue, TD Place. Pepsi will get signs at TD Place, home of the CFL Ottawa Redblacks and the Ottawa Fury of the NASL.

Sea Dogs partner with Cross Insurance

Cross Insurance and the Portland Sea Dogs reached a partnership that makes the agency the official insurance broker of the team. Cross Insurance will maintain a visible presence this season at Hadlock Field, home to the Class AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

Niners’ practice facility gets SAP name

The San Francisco 49ers’ new practice facility was officially renamed the SAP Performance Facility. SAP, a business software and analytics firm, has naming rights to the building as a founding partner for Levi’s Stadium, a deal announced in September 2012. The practice facility sits next to the new stadium.


Cano to help design Wilson gloves

Wilson Sporting Goods reached a baseball glove endorsement deal with Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano, whose status as part of the Wilson Advisory Staff will allow him to offer input on glove designs.

Bucs welcome ‘rookies’ to program

Five Florida Hospital locations are outfitting babies with Buccaneers gear and perks.
Florida Hospital is teaming up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to welcome all babies born this month into the Bucs Babies program. Families will receive an official baby uniform and training camp gear. Florida Hospital newborns will be “rookies” in the inaugural launch of the program. Florida Hospital will also host a birthday party on the Buccaneers pirate ship inside Raymond James Stadium every spring to celebrate Bucs Babies. The first birthday party will take place May 1, 2015.

Great Clips extends title sponsorship

Great Clips signed a two-year extension to continue as the title sponsor of the NASCAR practice day at Sonoma Raceway. The Great Clips Fast Friday on June 20 will feature two Sprint Cup Series practice sessions ahead of the Toyota/Save Mart 350.

Geico presents Wizards’ playoff round

Geico returned as the presenting partner of the Washington Wizards’ second round of home playoff games against the Indiana Pacers. The team will continue to use the playoff tag line “dcRising” and encourages fans using social media to use the hashtag #dcRising.

Manulife stays with LPGA event

Manulife will continue to be the title sponsor of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic for at least two more years. Waterloo is home to Manulife’s Canadian Division headquarters. The tournament will remain in the Waterloo region for the next two years, the only global sporting event in the area.

The NBA and shopping portal Jabong are launching the first official NBA online store in India. will complement the league’s partnership with Adidas, which already offers NBA products in more than 200 stores in the country. The India store marks the NBA’s fifth international online store since 2012.

Team hires firms for website launch
Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen FC appointed digital sports agency Sotic to help launch its new website. Sotic will work with Opta on performance and match data delivery, Perform for live streaming and on-demand multimedia, Opentext for content, asset and customer experience management and Highwinds for content delivery.

F1 race planned for capital city
Azerbaijan will host its first Formula One grand prix next year, according to a London Times report. The capital city of Baku will provide the stage for the race. With Russia lined up for a grand prix in October, F1 continues its surge eastward into former Soviet regions.

Emir Cup signs telecom partner
Ooredoo was named the top telecom partner for this year’s Emir Cup, according to a report in The Peninsula. The Qatar Football Association and Ooredoo signed an agreement to extend their partnership by one more year.


Pietersen opening youth academy
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen will open an academy in Dubai in October with India earmarked as his second destination, according to a PTI report. The report quoted Pietersen: “Kids from 7 to 18 years of age will be part of the academy. There will be different courses and we will encourage kids from all over the world to come to take up the course for two weeks.”

Commonwealth Games on the bus
Scotland bus operator First has joined the list of Commonwealth Games sponsors, according to a (Glasgow) Evening Times report. Planning of bus services for the Games has taken more than two years. First will provide transport for athletes, technical officials and the media in late July and early August.

New stadium built to FIFA standards
The King Abdullah Football Stadium opened this month. The 60,000-seat stadium, part of the King Abdullah Sports City development, was designed by Arup Associates, according to an Inside World Football report. The stadium was built to FIFA requirements and will be home to Jeddah’s two Premier League clubs, Al-Ittihad FC and Al-Ahli SC.

Ukrainian Cup final in limbo this week
The Ukrainian Football Federation said last week that the Ukrainian Cup final has been moved from Kharkiv in the volatile east for safety reasons and may be postponed, according to an Associated Press report. The final is scheduled for May 15, but Kharkiv has been the site of large anti-government protests.

No 2022 Games bid for Oslo
A majority of those attending the National Congress of the Progress Party, the junior coalition partner of the Norwegian government, voted against going ahead with a bid from Oslo for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, according to an Inside the Games report.

Utility firm signs with French Open
GDF Suez signed a five-year agreement to become an official partner of the French Open. The French multinational electric utility company becomes the energy and sustainable development partner of the Paris Grand Slam.

Sheffield drops Puma, adds Sondico
League Championship team Sheffield confirmed that Sondico will succeed Puma as its kit manufacturer at the end of the season, according to a SoccerEx report. The brand will supply playing and training kits, as well as leisure wear, for the first team, development squad and academy sides in a three-year deal.

FCVs to transport 2020 athletes
The Tokyo metropolitan government plans to use hydrogen-powered fuel-cell vehicles to transport athletes at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, according to a Yomiuri Shimbun report. FCVs run on a motor powered by electricity generated from a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

West Brom, Adidas extend contract
Premier League team West Bromwich signed a two-year contract extension with kit supplier Adidas. The club’s new kits will be revealed this month.
