MLS key dates

March 8:
The regular season opens with a slate of seven matches.

March 15:
The league’s two recent major player acquisitions face off when Michael Bradley and Toronto FC visit Clint Dempsey and the Seattle Sounders. The game will air on NBCSN and TSN. In what’s slated to be its final year as an MLS broadcast rights holder, NBCSN will broadcast 38 regular-season games and NBC will have three.

April 5:

Real Salt Lake and Sporting KC will have a rematch of their MLS Cup match.

A rematch of last year’s MLS Cup between Real Salt Lake and Sporting KC takes place at Sporting Park.

June 12-24:
The league takes a two-week break during the FIFA World Cup.

Aug. 2:
The first event at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., (the new home of the San Francisco 49ers) will be an MLS match between San Jose and Seattle.

Aug. 6:
The AT&T MLS All-Star Game will be played at Providence Park in Portland, with the MLS all-stars taking on Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich. The game will be telecast on ESPN2, UniMas, TSN and RDS.

Oct. 19:
New York’s final regular-season home game could be the last at Red Bull Arena for Thierry Henry, whose contract expires after this season.

Oct. 26:
The regular season concludes.

TBD:
The date for the 2014 MLS Cup. Commissioner Don Garber has said it may be later than last year’s championship match, which was on Dec. 7, but this year’s game date has yet to be set.

2015:
Orlando City SC and New York City FC begin play.
