Live marathon coverage planned

Universal Sports Network will televise live coverage of next year’s Boston Marathon, April 21. Coverage will include a prerace show, a postrace show and a wrap-up program. The network also will carry a preview show from the finish line on Boylston Street on April 19.

CLEVELAND
Cavs partner with Skyview

Skyview agreed to a deal to serve as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ official network provider. The multiyear partnership will provide distribution services and next-generation satellite receivers across the team’s 17-station radio network.

COLUMBUS
Jackets dealing new promotion

The Columbus Blue Jackets and Hollywood Casino Columbus agreed to a partnership deal. An in-market promotion will give fans the opportunity to play poker with Blue Jackets players and personalities at the casino. The “Win and Get In” promotion will be supported through in-arena messaging, during radio broadcasts and via social media channels.

DENVER
Rockies adding bar, restaurant, terrace

The Colorado Rockies are making changes to the right-field upper deck at Coors Field. The team is taking out seats along the venue’s third level and will fill that space with a bar, restaurant and terrace with views of the city’s downtown area. The 5280 Craft Bar will be 52 feet, 80 inches long and will feature 52 beer taps.

MIAMI
Wi-Fi mapped out, installed at Sun Life

As a result of a new agreement between the Miami Dolphins and AT&T, Sun Life Stadium now has more than 1,100 Wi-Fi access points. New mapping strategies have led to a racetrack-like Wi-Fi deployment at the stadium, with access points strategically placed under seats and snaked through railings.

Brewers freeze ticket prices
The Milwaukee Brewers, coming off a 74-88 season and the suspension of outfielder Ryan Braun, have decided to freeze season-ticket prices for 2014, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report. The Brewers drew 2.5 million fans to Miller Park this year, but that was down from 2012, when the team drew 2.8 million.

NEW YORK
Yankees announce ticket prices

Prices for 96 percent of New York Yankees season tickets will either remain the same or decrease next season. Approximately 39,000 tickets (78 percent) will have the same price in 2014 as they had this year, while 9,000 tickets (18 percent) will have a decrease in price. About 2,000 tickets will have higher prices.

Super Bowl insurance offered
Brokerage firm DeWitt Stern is offering coverage that would pay out in the event bad weather or other events would cause Super Bowl XLVIII to be canceled or moved, according to a Newark Star-Ledger report. The protection, underwritten by HCC Insurance Holdings, would pay policyholders either the revenue they anticipate making during the game or the expenses incurred leading up to it.

Runners test C3fit gear
As a warm-up to the Sunday’s ING New York City Marathon, more than 80 runners participated in a recent Tuesday Night Run sponsored by C3fit compression gear and Paragon Sports. The group met on the lower level of Paragon Sports’ store, where C3fit representatives gave the participants the option to test C3fit garments. C3fit is a division of Goldwin Inc.

MSG partners with Major Energy
The Madison Square Garden Co. and Major Energy reached a multiyear marketing partnership, making the energy supply company the first official gas and electric energy partner of the New York Knicks and an official partner of Madison Square Garden. Major Energy will have courtside LED signage. The deal also calls for the “Knicks Noise Meter presented by Major Energy” to be featured on the arena’s center-hung scoreboard.

PHILADELPHIA
Squash event signed through 2023

Drexel University signed a deal with US Squash to host the U.S. Open Squash Championships for the next 10 years. The deal will keep the tournament at Drexel through 2023. This year’s event, at Drexel’s Daskalakis Athletic Center, featured a $115,000 purse on both the men’s and women’s sides.

Cycling Classic upgraded
The Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic received an upgrade in classification by the International Cycling Union for its 2014 race. The governing body awarded next year’s race a 1.1 classification, which will make it the highest rated one-day race in the country. The second annual Philly Cycling Classic is scheduled for June 1.

Suns, Mercury renew with Prisma

The Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury renewed their marketing partnership with Prisma. Formerly Prisma Graphic, the Phoenix-based printing and marketing firm will remain the official print sponsor of the NBA and WNBA clubs.

PONCE, PUERTO RICO
Sports Authority opens doors in P.R.

Sports Authority held a grand opening of its new location in Ponce, Puerto Rico, earlier this month. Sports Authority hired more than 70 employees for the 35,000-square-foot store in Plaza del Caribe. The company plans to expand next year with two additional stores in San Juan.

ROCHESTER, N.Y.
PGA impact set at $102 million

New York state officials calculated that this year’s PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club had a $102.1 million economic impact on the Rochester region, surpassing initial projections of $78 million. More than 1,800 temporary, full- and part-time jobs were created. Approximately 225,000 spectators attended the event.

LE HAVRE, FRANCE
Transat Jacques Vabre sets sail

Sailors Rob Windsor (Long Island, N.Y.) and Hannah Jenner (Shropshire, England) are partnering as Team 11th Hour Racing as one of the competitors in the 20th anniversary of the Transat Jacques Vabre offshore sailing event. The monthlong, 5,600-mile race begins Sunday in Le Havre, France, and ends in Itajai, Brazil. The event will feature 25 teams of two competing in front of an expected crowd of 300,000 fans attending launch week.

LEEDS, ENGLAND
Leeds United names car supplier

Leeds United AFC named vehicle management company LeasePlan Go as the club’s official car supplier. The deal calls for the company to provide vehicles to the Football League Championship team for the next two seasons.

MANCHESTER
Man U mulling safe-standing option

Manchester United agreed to investigate the viability of adding a safe-standing area at Old Trafford, according to a (London) Independent report. Man U has always opposed safe standing on the grounds that Old Trafford is not equipped for it and legislation would be needed to make it possible.

RIO DE JANEIRO
Olympics keeps eye on caimans

Organizers of the first Olympic golf tournament in 112 years said there is little risk of alligator-like creatures slithering onto the course during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, according to a Bloomberg report. As many as 6,000 caimans, members of the alligator family, live in lagoons around western Rio, and their contact with humans has increased given the course construction work.

SOCHI, RUSSIA
Olympic coin sells for $232,200

A three-kilogram gold coin dedicated to the 2014 Sochi Olympics was purchased by an unnamed buyer in Russia’s Far East for $232,200, according to an R-Sport report. A spokesperson for the Sberbank branch in the Amur Region said the coin is the heaviest and most expensive in the series of coins to commemorate the Sochi Olympics.
