Orioles accepting Apple’s ticketing app

Oriole Park at Camden Yards will accept tickets through Apple’s Passbook ticketing app in 2013, and the team has plans to add mobile concessions in future seasons. These improvements come a year after the Orioles renovated their stadium.

BUFFALO
M&T Challenge returns for draft

The Buffalo Bills and M&T Bank will again team up for the M&T Bank Draft Day Challenge this year. The contest, now in its seventh year, lets fans predict the Bills’ first selection of the draft. Five winners will receive a prize package including a meet-and-greet event with the Bills’ top pick.

Seats selling in new stadium section
A premium seating section in the University at Buffalo’s football stadium will cost $8 million to $10 million to build and is projected to be ready by the 2015 season, according to Athletic Director Danny White. Construction will be funded by initial sales of the seats. About 100 have been sold, with prices ranging from $8,500 to $10,000 for rights to a seat over a 10-year period.

Broncos salute fans throughout state
The Denver Broncos took to the road April 1 to thank the state’s fans in what the team called its first Mile High Salute to the Fans Tour. The tour traveled to 20 Colorado cities over six days. The tour was presented by US Bank.

Kia names club at Kauffman

Kia has become the naming-rights partner of the Diamond Club at Kauffman Stadium. With the deal, the exclusive area will be known as the Kia Diamond Club. The three-tiered dining space behind home plate features baseball-themed decor and floor-to-ceiling retractable windows.

Chiefs sign security firm
St. Louis-based Whelan Security agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs to provide event security to the team and Arrowhead Stadium. Whelan will be hiring more than 400 employees to work at all events held at Arrowhead Stadium.

Speedway partners with Hy-Vee
Kansas Speedway and Hy-Vee reached a partnership that makes Hy-Vee the official grocer and tailgate pit stop of the track. The 2013 racing season at the speedway starts this weekend with NASCAR’s SFP 250 and STP 400.

MEMPHIS
MIR, King Cotton partner for season

Memphis International Raceway and King Cotton Foods reached a deal for the 2013 racing season. Products of locally based King Cotton, founded in 1935, will be offered at the track’s Pit Side Grill.

MIAMI
Spain-Haiti match set for stadium

RSE Ventures, Sun Life Stadium and Relevent Sports, the soccer division of RSE Ventures, have booked defending FIFA World Cup champion Spain to play Haiti on June 8 at Sun Life Stadium. The match marks the first time the two sides will have met and the first time Spain will have played in South Florida. One dollar per ticket sold will go directly to Project Phoenix, which is working to rebuild Haiti after the 2010 earthquake in that country.

NEW YORK
Isles to play Devils at Barclays Center

The New York Islanders will play a preseason game at Barclays Center on Sept. 21 ahead of their planned move to the arena in 2015. The game against the New Jersey Devils will mark the first NHL game played in Brooklyn.

Barclays teams with BlackBerry
Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets reached a sponsorship deal with BlackBerry for creation of the BlackBerry Lounge at the arena. Previously known as the South Club, the area is located on the arena’s suite level. In addition to extensive branding in the lounge and LED signage during events, BlackBerry through the deal will have a permanent experiential zone on the arena’s Ticketmaster Main Concourse.

PHILADELPHIA
Unions picket at U.S. Open site

Two unions have set up pickets at and near Merion Golf Club to protest the U.S. Golf Association’s use of non-union labor for this year’s U.S. Open, which will be held at the course in June. Local carpenters and stagehands unions have set up their pickets outside the club and at neighboring Haverford College, where luxury tents for spectators and sponsors are being constructed.

SACRAMENTO
Contest seeks team name, colors

Sacramento Professional Soccer, a group that bought a pro soccer franchise last December with designs on beginning play next year, has launched a contest seeking a name for the club as well as the team’s colors and a design for its team scarf. Contest participants will be eligible to win prizes that include tickets to the season opener, season tickets, and a pregame meet-and-greet event.

Craigslist lacing up for iconic race
Locally based Craigslist will be the presenting sponsor of the Bay to Breakers race this year. More than 30,000 runners from around the world will hit the streets of San Francisco for the 102nd edition of the 12K race. Owned and operated by AEG, the race is scheduled for May 19.

ST. LOUIS
CVC ordered to pay $2M in legal fees

Arbitrators ruled that the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission must pay $2 million in legal expenses incurred by the St. Louis Rams as the team fought over renovations to Edward Jones Dome, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report. The CVC estimated its own arbitration expenses will total about $2 million more, putting the total public cost at nearly $4 million.

Griffin knocks Rodgers from top spot

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III topped all NFL players in jerseys sold from April 2012 through March 2013, while also setting the all-time record for jersey sales in the league’s business year. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers fell to No. 7 on the list after leading the league in sales for 2011-12.

BALI, INDONESIA
World-class stadium sought
Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo urged the Bali administration to develop an international-class stadium to replace the province’s unfinished and rundown 13-year-old sports arena, according to a Jakarta Globe report. The stadium has been used by the Bali Devata football club since it joined the Indonesian Premier League in 2011.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND
Man U, Aon reach extension
Manchester United and Aon agreed to an eight-year extension of their sponsorship deal, running through 2021. The renewed deal includes naming rights to the club’s training facility, which becomes the Aon Training Complex. The deal is reportedly worth $274 million.

Man U studying decibel levels
Man U has appointed an acoustic engineer in a bid to increase the decibel levels from home supporters inside Old Trafford, according to a London Independent report. Fans in the Stretford End of the 75,000-capacity facility felt their singing was not being heard around the rest of the stadium.

MELSUNGEN, GERMANY
Handball club signs two providers
Bundesliga Handball club MT Melsungen signed a jersey deal with Swedish apparel company Salming. The club also agreed to a deal with Danish company Select to become the team’s official ball provider. The two Scandinavian companies will replace Puma on July 1 as the team’s official jersey and ball provider.

Indians working with superheroes
Marvel Entertainment joined hands with the Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians for an exclusive range of merchandise targeting children, according to an Indo-Asian News Service report.

‘Doraemon’ supports bid
Well-known Japanese anime character “Doraemon” was appointed the nation’s first special ambassador in support of Tokyo’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
