The Green Bay Packers, team sponsor Verlo Mattress Factory and Foamation, the maker of the Cheesehead hat, have joined forces to create the Cheesehead Bed, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report. The bed is made of a gel foam or memory foam mattress encased in a gold-colored cover so as to resemble a block of cheese. Its pricing structure calls for the mattress to be sold at a discount for 24 hours after every Packers victory.
Schools to play on turf at Reliant
AstroTurf arrived at Reliant Stadium and will be used for high school playoff games as early as this month, according to a Houston Chronicle report. The new field reportedly cost about $1.2 million, including installation, maintenance and storage equipment. The stadium will continue to use its grass field for Houston Texans games.
Davis Cup site selected
Jacksonville was selected as the site for the 2013 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas first-round match between the United States and Brazil, Feb. 1-3. The matches will be played at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, which will have an expected capacity of about 13,000. The event is being organized, staged and promoted by the U.S. Tennis Association.
Auction features Ruth, DiMaggio items
A Babe Ruth-autographed baseball bat and a Joe DiMaggio 1951 World Series ring are the headliners at the ninth annual Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory Live Auction on Saturday. The Ruth bat was signed for a friend in 1924 and carries a presale estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. The DiMaggio ring is estimated at $50,000 to $100,000. Also included in the Hunt Auctions event are items related to the late Harry Kalas, including a Kalas-signed model of the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies World Series trophy.
Heat to open airport retail store
The Miami Heat is expanding its retail operation to include a 1,000-square-foot store at Miami International Airport. The store is under construction, with plans to be open in time for the holiday shopping season. Adidas will be the exclusive apparel provider for the location.
Lexus naming new MSG suite level
Madison Square Garden reached a long-term marketing deal with Lexus that designates the brand as a signature partner of the venue. Lexus gains naming rights to a suite level that debuted at the arena last week as part of MSG’s second phase of renovations. It also becomes the official luxury vehicle of MSG and its teams as well as the concert series at MSG.
Swiss watchmaker Tissot launched a Madison Square Garden line of watches. NASCAR driver and Tissot brand ambassador Danica Patrick presented the first watches to former New York players Larry Johnson of the NBA Knicks and Adam Graves of the NHL Rangers. Tissot is the official timepiece of MSG.
PrimeSport gets Jimmy V business
PrimeSport was selected as the official ticket exchange, VIP pregame hospitality and fan travel-package provider for the Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic. This year’s Classic is scheduled for Dec. 4 at Madison Square Garden.
KHL cancels Barclays games
The Kontinental Hockey League canceled two regular-season games between Dynamo Moscow and SKA St. Petersburg that it had scheduled for Barclays Center in January. KHL officials said the ongoing NHL lockout made it difficult to host the games, according to an online report at RT.com.
Jets to use Skyview systems
The New York Jets and Skyview Networks agreed to a multiyear broadcast services deal. Skyview, which specializes in play-by-play broadcast systems, will provide its F.A.S.T. Inventory Management System and Live Read Logging Service to the Jets.
St. Bonaventure eyes facility upgrades
St. Bonaventure University unveiled a strategic plan for its athletic program including $18.8 million in facility upgrades. The university wants to install new artificial turf fields with additional seating, lighting and concession space, as well as a new locker room for its women’s basketball team at the on-campus Reilly Center. Fundraising for the projects has begun.
Villanova reaches radio deal
Villanova University signed a multiyear agreement to have its men’s basketball and football games air on WIP 610-AM and 94.1-FM in Philadelphia. Terms of the deal, which begins for this year’s basketball season, were not disclosed. WIP also will broadcast coaches shows featuring basketball coach Jay Wright and football coach Andy Talley.
Suns, Coors Light strike partnership
The Phoenix Suns and Coors Light last week launched a multiyear marketing partnership with a tailgate party in the new Coors Light Cold Zone area at US Airways Center. The arena space is home to an indoor/outdoor bar and oversized patio.
Suns, Mercury have official chips
The Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Idahoan Foods agreed to a deal that makes Idahoan potato crisps the official potato chip of the teams. The partnership began at the Suns’ home opener last week with the launch of Idahoan’s first potato chip, to be sold exclusively at Fry’s Food Stores.
Kings on CytoSport bottles
CytoSport, the parent company to Muscle Milk, is selling in Sacramento stores a limited edition Sacramento Kings bottle during the NBA season. The bottle of chocolate drink, which features the Kings’ logo and colors, is part of a larger marketing partnership between the Kings and Muscle Milk.
HP Pavilion turns to Bloom servers
Sharks Sports & Entertainment activated servers from Bloom Energy at HP Pavilion at San Jose, home of the NHL Sharks. The servers allow the facility to use fuel cell technology as a supplemental electricity source. SSE also uses Bloom Energy servers at Sharks Ice at San Jose, a public recreational facility owned by the city of San Jose and managed by SSE.
Track, UNOH extend partnership
The University of Northwestern Ohio will be the title sponsor of Kentucky Speedway’s UNOH 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event through 2015 as part of an extended corporate partnership. The third UNOH 225 will open a tripleheader NASCAR weekend on June 27. UNOH is located in Lima, Ohio
Panthers, arena extend with jeweler
Weston Jewelers renewed and upgraded its marketing partnership as the official jeweler and watch store of the Florida Panthers, the BB&T Center and the Club Red space inside the arena. The partnership is highlighted by enhanced in-arena signage and LED exposure for Weston Jewelers throughout the venue. Additionally, Baptist Health South Florida and Doctors Hospital signed a multiyear partnership with the Panthers and the BB&T Center.
Audi on board for Alpine event
Audi agreed to deal making it presenting sponsor of the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships at Vail and Beaver Creek, Colo., according to a Vail Daily report. Audi becomes the fifth major international partner to sign on for the event, joining Swedish energy company Vattenfall, Swedish sports apparel manufacturer J. Lindeberg, German shoe retailer Deichmann and Swiss timekeeper Longines.
Wizards, Caps reach radio deal
The Washington Wizards and Capitals reached a multiyear agreement that will put the broadcasts of their games on CBS Radio’s WJFK 106.7-FM and Hubbard Radio’s WFED 1500-AM. The stations will carry pregame and postgame shows in addition to the game broadcasts.

Aston Villa backs safety campaign
Aston Villa FC is publicly supporting a new campaign for trials of safe standing areas in stadiums. The campaign, launched by the Football Supporters’ Federation, has received backing by Villa, as well as Championship club Peterborough United, to allow small-scale trials of standing areas, which have been prohibited in England’s top two soccer divisions since 1989 for safety reasons.
Bulls sign Asian food supplier
The Super League Bradford Bulls agreed to a one-year partnership with fast food supplier Rajas. The company will be the rugby club’s first Asian sponsor.
Richer KPL edition under way
The second edition of the Kerala Premier League, with more teams and bigger prize money, was launched late last month, according to a Gulf News report. The KPL is UAE’s richest domestic cricket tournament. The second edition of the KPL runs through Dec. 2 at the Dubai Sports City Stadium and International Cricket Council Global Cricket Academy grounds.
