A collaboration between Lee County and the Boston Red Sox is expected to save Lee County more than $100,000 a year — or more than $3 million over the life of the Red Sox lease agreement — through the sustainable design of JetBlue Park at Fenway South, the team’s spring training complex that opened this year. On Oct. 1, JetBlue Park was LEED certified.

American Forces Network will televise the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals to nearly 1 million American service men and women, Department of Defense civilians, and their families overseas. The World Finals start on Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center and have a total prize purse of $2.2 million.

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will be the primary tourism destination sponsor of the 2012 ING New York City Marathon on Nov. 4. The ministry appointed IMG to strategize and execute the sponsorship and marketing of Indonesia tourism at the marathon.

The Omaha Storm Chasers and the Home Run Foundation of Greater Omaha donated $479,899 to area charities during the 2012 season in the form of cash, goods and services. The largest single donation made by the Storm Chasers — $100,000 — went to the Nebraska Educational Savings Trust “Hit the Books” Reading Program.

Tijuana Flats back with free tacos
For the third consecutive year, the Orlando Magic is partnering with Orlando-based Tijuana Flats to offer a free taco to any fan in attendance at any home game in the preseason or regular season in which the Magic hit 10 or more three-pointers. Tijuana Flats gave away more than 13,000 free tacos last season.

Bradley University athletics welcomed new members to its sponsorship family. Sam’s Club joined the Braves as a silver-level sponsor that will support elements of men’s basketball games at Carver Arena this season. Applebee’s agreed to a two-year partnership at the silver level and will be the presenting sponsor of the Bradley women’s basketball “Field Trip Day” Nov. 9. InterContinental Hotels Group entered into a new one-year agreement that names IHG the preferred hotel brand.

Xfinity Live! fills NHL void
Xfinity Live! Philadelphia is taking steps to fill the NHL labor void with a series of invitations to free events. The facility hosted a showing of the HBO Sports documentary “Broad Street Bullies,” where former Flyers Joe Watson, Bob “Hound” Kelly and Gary Dornhoefer greeted Flyers fans and signed autographs prior to the show. On Oct. 18, Xfinity Live! showed Game 3 of the 1997 Eastern Conference finals.

Mariners help raise $1M this season
Mariners Care, the Seattle Mariners’ nonprofit foundation, and its corporate partners helped provide $1,003,741 in 2012 for a variety of charitable programs. Since 2000, Mariners Care has helped raise $13.5 million to benefit primarily youth-oriented community service programs. Mariners Care and the Mariners corporate partners supported more than 1,500 local organizations in 2012.

Snyder honored for ‘Pink’ efforts
The Washington Redskins are promoting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month at both FedEx Field and Redskins Park. Tanya Snyder, wife of Redskins owner Dan Snyder, started the NFL’s ZTA Think-Pink campaign in 1999. On Thursday, Tanya Snyder will be honored by the Men Against Breast Cancer organization with the Gloria Heyison Inspiration Award for her breast cancer awareness efforts.

Liverpool FC says yes to renovations
Liverpool FC moved a step closer to redeveloping Anfield after confirming it wants to remain at its existing home and not build a new stadium in Stanley Park, according to a London Telegraph report. Liverpool City Council announced extensive plans for a regeneration of the Anfield area last week after securing a $40 million grant.

West Ham’s move in doubt
EPL club West Ham United’s move to Olympic Stadium has been thrown into doubt after European Commission officials wrote to the U.K. government asking for details about potentially illegal state aid to football clubs, according to a London Daily Mail report. The commission, an arm of the European Union, has power to halt West Ham’s bid and has written to all EU countries with the same request.

A-League club Melbourne Victory signed Oliana Foods as its joint principal partner and away shirt sponsor. The company already has its logo on coach Ange Postecoglou’s collar. Melbourne has led the A-League in attendance every year since the 2006-07 season.

Insurance firm AIG and the New Zealand Rugby Union agreed to a 5½-year deal for AIG to sponsor six NZRU rugby teams: the All Blacks, Maori All Blacks, All Blacks Sevens, New Zealand Black Ferns, New Zealand Women’s Sevens and New Zealand Under 20.

F1 circuit project draws debate
The Greek government’s decision to invest heavily in the construction of a new Formula One circuit near the port of Patras sparked a furious response from the business consortium behind a similar project in the Athens suburb of Piraeus, according to an Auto Week report. The Piraeus consortium formalized its bid through Greek national motorsports body ELPA, and has already received a personal nod from F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, according to the report.

Ecclestone OKs changes in race contract
Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone agreed to change the contract with operators of the financially struggling Korean F1 Grand Prix, according to a Motorsport Magazin report. The Korean race, which made its F1 debut in 2010, has been on the brink of being dropped from the F1 calendar due to financial difficulties.
