Mgmt One, founded by
Ken Griffey Jr.’s longtime agent and two other veteran sports agents, has signed San Diego Padres center fielder
Cameron Maybin for representation.
Cincinnati-based Mgmt One was founded last year by Brian Goldberg, who continues to represent Griffey in retirement, along with NBA agent Bill Strickland and NFL agent Jimmy Gould. Gould’s clients include Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith and defensive end Frostee Rucker. Strickland’s clients include NBA free agent forward Rasheed Wallace, whom Goldberg said has been getting some inquiries from NBA clubs during this lockout-shortened season.

Andy Oliver, to the NCAA when Oliver was in college at Oklahoma State. Baratta did not return a phone call.
Goldberg originally co-represented Maybin with Baratta when Maybin was drafted out of high school in 2005, but Maybin left Goldberg for Baratta. A few weeks ago, Maybin and his father called Goldberg about signing back with him. Goldberg, who had not had contact with Maybin for three years before that outreach, was happy to have him back.
“Cameron is one of the best young players in the majors, so this is a big deal,” Goldberg said. “He’s not even 25 yet and he’s going into his third full year in the majors.”
Maybin tied for second in stolen bases in the National League last year. He’s eligible for arbitration after this season and, under his current contract, is eligible for free agency after the 2015 season.
REP ROUNDUP: Rosenhaus Sports, the NFL player rep firm owned by brothers and agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, signed Wake Forest wide receiver Chris Givens and Florida State offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders for representation in this year’s NFL draft. ... Maximum Sports Management signed South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery for representation in the draft. Agent Eugene Parker will represent Jeffery. ... Rep1 Sports, the NFL player rep firm owned by cousins Ryan and Bruce Tollner, signed San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley. Rep1 also signed Fresno State wide receiver Devon Wylie, Boise State linebacker/defensive end Shea McClellin, Midwestern State offensive lineman Amini Silatolu, San Diego State linebacker Miles Burris, Vanderbilt safety Sean Richardson, Washington defensive tackle Alameda Ta’amu, Michigan State wide receiver Keshawn Martin, Michigan State safety Trenton Robinson and Pittsburgh offensive lineman Lucas Nix.
CHARGES AGAINST KIRKPATRICK DROPPED: The Manatee County (Fla.) state attorney’s office last week dismissed misdemeanor marijuana possession charges police had filed against former Alabama cornerback and top NFL draft prospect Dre Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick was a passenger in a car with Under Armour employee and former Alabama cornerback Chris Rogers when they were arrested Jan. 17.
“I was confident that this would be resolved and my name would be cleared,” said Kirkpatrick, in a statement. Kirkpatrick’s agent, Brian Overstreet, previously said that Kirkpatrick would be cleared of the charges (SportsBusiness Journal, Feb. 6-12 issue).
SULLIVAN JOINS BRONCOS: Longtime NFL agent Mike Sullivan has left Octagon and joined the Denver Broncos as director of football administration. Said Phil de Picciotto, Octagon Inc. president, “I have nothing but good things to say about Mike, and we look forward to working with him in his new position.”
Sullivan has a longstanding relationship with Broncos executive vice president John Elway, a former Octagon client.
De Picciotto recently negotiated a deal with the Broncos for client Jack Del Rio to join the club as defensive coordinator.
