Brisk sellout for Cotton Bowl
The AT&T Cotton Bowl, scheduled for Jan. 6 at Cowboys Stadium, is officially sold out. The matchup between the Big 12 Conference and the SEC has generated sellouts nine of the past 10 years, but this marks the quickest sellout in the history of the game.

BOSTON
Halloween events set for Fenway

Spooky World, an annual Halloween showcase, will mark its 20th anniversary this year with an event at Fenway Park, according to a report in the Boston Herald. The Fear at Fenway runs Oct. 28-Nov. 6 and includes three new attractions, dubbed 3D Freakout, Hancock Hill Cemetery and Brigham Manor.

CHARLOTTE
Hall Tuesdays with Cup drivers

Drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup will visit with fans at the NASCAR Hall of Fame every Tuesday afternoon through Nov. 15. A different driver will participate each week in an afternoon of media opportunities. The 10-week schedule is scheduled to begin Tuesday with Kyle Busch.

Bobcats, insurer form partnership
The Charlotte Bobcats entered into a three-year marketing partnership with Insurance Office of America. The deal includes in-arena signage during home games at Time Warner Cable Arena, print advertising in the team’s game program, media guide and team yearbook, a digital presence on bobcats.com, and suite hospitality.

CINCINNATI
Xavier, FS Ohio sign deal

Xavier University completed a three-year rights agreement with Fox Sports Ohio for broadcasts of Xavier’s men’s basketball games. Fox Sports Ohio will produce and telecast at least eight games each season. Xavier’s conference, the Atlantic 10, has a deal with ESPN for other game broadcasts.

CLEVELAND
Indians honored with workplace award

The Cleveland Indians were named a 2011 NorthCoast 99 Winner as one of the best workplaces in Northeast Ohio. NorthCoast 99 is an annual recognition program that honors 99 area workplaces. The program was developed and is presented by the Employers Resource Council.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.
Griffins name jersey design winners

Jason Villanti of Sayre, Pa., and Fraser Davidson of London were selected as the winners of the Grand Rapids Griffins’ third annual jersey design contest. Their creations were chosen from a record 119 entries submitted during the summer contest conducted by PuckDrawn.com.

Dodgers doing Social September
The Los Angeles Dodgers are conducting Social September, a monthlong initiative to engage Dodgers fans online, in-stadium and at home. Elements of the program (which carries the hashtag #SocialSept) can be seen on dodgers.com, on Facebook at facebook.com/dodgers, on Twitter @Dodgers, on the DodgerVision board at Dodger Stadium and with the team’s broadcast partners.

LOUISVILLE, KY.
New Derby ticket system installed
Churchill Downs has implemented a new online ticket request procedure for the Kentucky Derby and Oaks that track officials say is more democratic, according to a report in The (Louisville) Courier-Journal, but each application also now requires a $50 fee. Darren Rogers, Churchill Downs Inc. senior director of communications and media services, said that up to 20,000 seats will be available, ranging in cost from $196 to $1,076 for a two-day package. Tickets previously were allocated by a Derby committee, whereas the new system will operate on more of a first-come, first-served basis.

Isles name official tattoo shop
The New York Islanders named Tattoo Lou’s as the official tattoo shop of the team. Tattoo Lou’s will set up a tattooing and body-piercing station on the Nassau Coliseum concourse for 10 Islanders home games during the 2011-12 season. Tattoo Lou’s also will sell Islanders-centric body jewelry and tattoo-inspired Islanders T-shirts and sweatshirts.

ORLANDO
Magic license plates available

The Orlando Magic has a new specialty license plate, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation. The plate can be purchased via the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

PHILADELPHIA
Temple reaches broadcast deal

Temple University agreed to a multiyear deal with WPHT-AM (1210) under which the local radio station will broadcast every Temple men’s basketball and football game, starting this year. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Eagles create cheerleaders app
This year’s Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders calendar will be available for $1.99 through a mobile application the team created for iPhones, iPads and Android devices. The 2012 calendar app, which will include still pictures and videos, is expected to be available by early November. The Eagles said they are the first NFL team to create a cheerleaders calendar app.

SACRAMENTO
Arena group narrows property focus

Fewer than 20 city-owned properties remain on the radar of Sacramento’s arena committee as possible sites that could be sold to help finance the development of a sports and entertainment center. The targeted venue would be the new home of the NBA Kings. The disclosure came as part of a Think Big Sacramento report that cited examples of three underused Sacramento city properties that could be sold and redeveloped — with jobs created — to take advantage of being near the proposed arena site.

Scotiabank signs exclusive Leafs deal

Scotiabank entered a partnership that includes exclusive banking rights with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL Toronto Marlies. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment will retain its financial services partnership with TD Waterhouse.

Nats team with amputee softball squad
The Washington Nationals and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will support each other in a new partnership. The Wounded Warrior team made its official public debut Sept. 4 at Nationals Park as the Washington Nationals Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, facing off against a group of D.C.-area celebrities in an exhibition game after that day’s Nationals-New York Mets game.

Redskins plan practice facility
The Washington Redskins will soon break ground on an indoor practice facility at Redskins Park, according to a report in The Washington Post. Described as an “air structure,” the facility will be built over a full-size football field and is expected to be completed later this fall.

YORK, PA.
Revs roll back prices to 25 cents

The York Revolution will look back to 1925 and pay homage to the New York-Penn League champs from that year with a “1925 prices night” on Wednesday at Sovereign Bank Stadium. All individual field box tickets will be 25 cents. In addition, the Revs will offer 25-cent specials on peanuts, popcorn, cotton candy, animal crackers, chips, candy and Pepsi products.
