Fuchs to oversee sports at Yahoo!

Yahoo! last week named veteran Time Inc. and Sports Illustrated executive Ken Fuchs as its new head of sports, entertainment, and games, perhaps completing a period of transition for the portal.

Fuchs will oversee a set of properties that includes Yahoo! Sports, for more than two years the U.S.-based sports site with the highest traffic each month in terms of unique users. He is slated to begin in the post April 5.

Before Fuchs, Yahoo! Sports had been co-managed on an interim basis by Dave Morgan, executive editor for North American audiences, and Clifton Ma, senior manager of business operations for Yahoo! Sports and Games.

Fuchs spent more than three years as vice president and general manager of the SI Digital Group. After last year’s shift of SI’s digital business operations to Turner Sports, Fuchs moved briefly to a more corporate role as vice president of emerging platforms for Time Inc.

Fuchs marks the seventh executive to serve as operational head of Yahoo! Sports since 2005. Time Inc. is seeking a replacement for Fuchs.
